iDrive Seatbelt Reminder
I am getting ready to order my x3 and am wondering if the seatbelt reminder chime can be disabled through the iDrive? I know it stops beeping after a mile but would prefer no chime at all. If it can not be disabled through iDrive I will measure the seatbelt buckles when I order and have "cheater" buckles machined prior to delivery to disable the reminder.
Before someone says "wear your seatbelt" or some similar off-topic remark - I am asking a technical question, not your opinion on how I should live my life or what my driving habits should be. Thanks, Dave |

It can't be disabled through normal iDrive operation. There may be a hack.

I found another very simple method of disabling the seat belt chime. PUT THE SEATBELT ON!

As a trauma specialist I cannot understand why you wouldn't. Not doing so is akin to wearing t-shirt and shorts on a motorbike.

I disabled my alarm by disconnecting a plug under the drivers seat. This was a 2005 VW Passat..... but everytime I took the car to the dealer they reinstated it. These chimes and alarms are done for the sake of it. They often add no value and are a result of micro processors fitted in every physical item. Software fiddling for the sake of it is like goverment officials creating more rules to keep there jobs and work load up.

1st...just put your seatbelt on...its not worth sacrificing your life. I ve been in a car accident when i was very young, and i wasnt wearing a belt....i hit my head so hard i stopped breathing...luckily i was quite small and didnt fly out the window.
2nd: looks like coding is the only way to disable the chime... |

Thank you to those who answered the question and remained on-topic.
I hope that all those who felt the need to preach about wearing a seatbelt or make inferences to my intellect - I can assure you that I recognize the implications of the choices I make and am capable of deciding if a particular risk is acceptable to me. Do you also feel the need to preach at and belittle those in other risk groups like smokers, alcoholics, the obese, the sexually promiscuous? Regards, Dave |

I also hope your partner and children are okay with caring for your day to day needs when you invariably get ejected from a relatively minor accident and end up a paraplegic. But at least your wheelchair won't make that annoying chime sound

To balance the argument, I would like it disabled as well because I always drive with my seatbelt on but there are times when I want to remove my seatbelt when reversing or parking or moving so slowly that wearing a seatbelt would make no difference if I hit something. At these times the chime is annoying and distracting if it kicks in
To defend the original poster, you shouldn't really assume that he wants it disabled because he will always drive without a seatbelt. Maybe he will but he hasn't asked how to remove the seatbelt itself, just the warning.

Maybe we should also find out how to disable the airbags, DTC, DSC and DBC. Even though those things don't make a beep I find them really annoying. Is there a switch or is it only coded ?
To the OP - ask that kind of question and don't be surprised by the answers. I am assuming you are an american - your fellow citizens probably have the right to be quite alarmed by your post when they are the ones paying increased taxes and otherwise picking up the cost for treating you for your increased injuries from not wearing a seat belt. |

I can get behind the annoyance factor. The belt makes sense to me, I always wear it, so I don't really need the chime. It's automatic to put it on. Re the other poster, he said if he couldn't disable it he'd install a cheater. Seems to indicate his desire not to use the belt. And then there was his "don't voice your opinions on this" instruction.
