It's only a car. Keep the order, forget about it as best you can. Enjoy life in the meantime, then pick it up when It's ready.

I waited nearly 5 months for my Canadian delivery. I think that 4 months for a custom-built car is par for the course, and I agree that 8 months is too long for something that we feel is ours already at the time of the order. But on the other hand, think about the delays in consumer electronics: for example the Android tablet operating system, which is not even hardware and thus does not suffer from the distribution shortages of a complex supply chain, has been announced for ages and will not be available for a while yet. The iPad 2 was so supply constrained that of the 76 countries who can buy an iPad only 25 have access to the iPad 2 and for those the wait is about a month. If you live in India, you can rejoice that after a 6 month wait or so, you can now buy the old model whereas the new model will not come until fall.

The key in my case is not falling prey of the frenzy that marketing builds around a still unavailable product. I had to wait for 2 years for this X3, from the initial rumours to last July's official presentation and finally my purchase in November and delivery in March. I would have gone crazy if I hadn't managed my expectations. I refuse to let 6 months or two years of wait time deprive me of enjoying my life.

The funny dynamics of supply and demand. I don't think BMW or any manufacturer at this point in time will risk over manufacturing due to the cost of having stock lying around. This is why there is many months waiting list for most cars in the mid and high ranges.

I do know that glad didn't wait for the Evoque (I did think about it). From the back simply looks squashed and boring.

Get a copy of Top Gear magazine from december and look out a small photo of the Evoque compared to the Ford Flex (page 33) and they look awfully alike....

Why did you move from an X6 to X3, its usually the other way round? Curious.

Started with an X5 (E53) for 4 years loved it but did'nt like the new model, so tried the X6, nice car but just to big. So seen the new X3 as it's about the same size as old X5 loved the look of it and had to have one( or at least one on order)

Ordered my wife's car last weekend from dealer - delivery due for September. They had two more slots for October as well.

I think it's probably stretching the truth to say all new UK orders will be at least next year, as will depend on any pre-existing slots.

I bet you £5 its late and pushing 2012!

We all seem to have been made promises at order point - I was told Early Feb after order in early November and still waiting for delivery end this week/early next week

Hope your right but dont count on it!

Was told late Dec/early Jan when I ordered and took delivery 2 months later than this (end of Feb). Refer to my earlier post on delivery dates:

For me it's 60 + 30 + (6 x b) = 127 => My dealer's bullsh!t factor is 6.2

N.B. Even if your dealer has a bullsh!t factor of 0, your original estimate will still be optimistic by 1 month
You'll only get a clear idea when it enters production. Add 6 weeks to this date and that's a much better estimate of your delivery date.

UK delivery update.

Ordered my X3 7th January

Car apparently built week 9 (w/c 27th February)

Dealer called today to advise car expected to land in UK end of this week and will be available for collection Friday 15th April.

Apart from local demo vehicle, I haven't seen one on the road since my test drive in December.

WTF

Mine arrived in UK on the 21st March and still isn't ready

Its taken longer to come from Southampton docks to me via Sytners than from the US plant to UK port via Germany and Belgium!

Always happens to me!

Mine order is through Sytner so maybe they're being optimistic with UK arrival to collection from dealer!

Took mine 3 weeks to get from the docks to the dealer, but I live in the NE of Scotland!

I ordered back in august 2010 and was given a eta of 31st December which ended up being 3rd feb due to QC issues at the factory.

Mine is scheduled for production week 38 and delivery week 45 (7 Nov), so 6 weeks after production looks about right!

According to Business Car magazine the X3 has the unenviable record of having one of the longest lead times of a regular production car. No surprise to many on this forum but other manufacturers including VW and Audi are not much better. Better margins in other markets e.g China are restricting supply to the UK.

I was told to allow six weeks for delivery from the factory.

wow that evoque is one ugly vehicle...I hope it has a fast engine, because the back is so 1990..

Ordered my X3 end of January, delivery date is approximately scheduled for April 29 , so pretty much 3 months. I called the dealer yesterday and got that date.
