Unless you can record a video we can't really Klappen is louder, because right now we have more proof of sounds from M40i than Klappen. Also, the klappen has a downpipe (aftermarket) which helps the turbos spool and exhaust tone

I was afraid that my vehicle, with only 306 bhp would sound "weak" compared to the Russian car - but on the contrary - in reality it has a stronger sound than video - both legal and non-legal.
If anything - M40i has somewhat stronger sound compared to legal, but non-legal is King of the Hill

Anyway, I am now driving with a smile on my face- just waiting to remove studded tires.

Agreed the klappen adds a very nice exhaust tone that is needed.

ROBNYC,video is out of my league. You have Russian car and M40i - both in "garage"- you have to trust me that STD 35i with Klappen is as Russian car.

I will, however, do a tesdrive with M40i at dealer, when available. I will also report findings here - not to try to convince M40i owners that they made a mistake, but possibly guide potential buyers of the difference between an EL Cheapo upgrade of a 35i and a M40i.

I am happy with my 306 - possibly 315bhp with Klappen - so the interesting evaluation is:
-interior sound
-sidewind sensitivity
-steering precision
-steering feedback
-steer-into-a-curve
-gearshifting
-chassis comfort

There are no more X4 35i being produced. Klappen was designed for X4 35i M only.

There are a lot of positive appraisal for the sound of the M40i, but so far nobody has come forward with a report from a 35i M with Klappen.

Am I- and the Russian - the only ones?

The exhaust sounds about what my X4M sounds like on "sport and sport+ and sometimes on normal when flooring it. AC Schnitzer has a new rear diffuser panel for quad exhaust that is for the X4M although it should fit any X4. It also comes with the exhaust "finishers' ie tips.

Tjalle, honestly, I find the M40i a good middle-ground noise-wise. It's definitely a head-turner and you can't hide it even at low speeds, but it's not overly aggressive or exaggerated. I'm quite happy.

I have worked for a car manufacturer, and we would not have got away with this level of sound. Perhaps BMW learned something from VW? That, however, is not your concern. You just enjoy!

You started a thread and bought the exhaust and you dont want to share it with us, Sorry but I find it a bit selfish. I was hesitant whether to buy M performance exhaust or Schnitzer, I ended up getting Supersprint exhaust which I did not really like, too much drone at 1-2k rpm. I would like to thank FSociety for sharing with us exhaust videos of his M40i, sounds amazing.

m7mad, there are a soundclips from "Russian car" with STD exhaust, Klappen-Sport, Klappen- Track and also "Russian" being dyno-tested. All in this thread.

What has not been discussed in this thread is the fact that M40i has electronically enhanced interior sound -that has been established elsewhere -and that's how BMW got around legal requirements. What is heard inside is a recording of outside exhaust sound. Very impressive but not the real thing- which I have

Many believe that 4 exhausts are the way to go - I believe that is over the top for less than 400bhp.

chentw, finally! You are the first, besides the Russian, to say you have installed Klappen/M Performance.

There has been numerous inputs on downpipes - hope someone will help out. FSociety should know.
