Topview camera hack

Anyone come across such a thing? I see mentions of similar for other models but wondered if an F25 solution exists yet. Ta.

Sorry. Currently the top view only works on engaging reverse then crawling forward. Ideally, there would be a way of leaving it on for 320 degree vision of immediate area around car whilst driving. Helpful for cruising into parking spaces etc.

You can just push the parking sensor button next to the gear lever and select top view at any time. I use it all the time at low speeds, but it will not work at higher speeds.

Thanks LFC and that was my point. Is there a way of programming out the speed limit, as moving forward it switches off at only 9mph?

It shouldn't be hard - I would give the guys at Prochip a call - they do DVDFree, TVFree and CTMFRee which all disable the speed limit on other electronic iDrive functions such as the DVD, TV, and roof opening mechanisms.

Prochip contact

Try http://www.prochip.de/kontakt/index.htm
Or just email them direct from the link.
The website is mainly German but they speak / read English.

I have the CTMFree and auto mirror folding tool. Can't complain about the price or service.

We have run a few group buys over on the Z4 forum.

But if you look at my post - I suggested you contact them to ask if they can do it for you....

They are a small(ish) operation and the software hack would not be very hard.

Yep I got same answer. The claim seems to be you buy an otherwise undetectable plug in box which they will experimentally program to do pretty much anything you like if I understand correctly. Interesting. They recon they could get mirrors to fold on locking too which is so useful.

My mirrors fold on locking if you hold the lock button. Sunroof and windows close too.

I am interested in unlocking the find my car iPhone function so that it works over 1km away. Is this likely to be covered? I'll email them

Yep on the mirrors. With Mercs tho there is no need to hold - just first press works. Maybe I am being lazy to want the same.

On location I also wondered but did not ask. Clearly there are privacy issues here which is why BMW might decide that tracking a car beyond the scale of a large car park might result in press coverage of snooping. But if you have nothing to hide clearly it is a free Tracker system. Shout if you get a reply.

Hmmm, but then you can't decide whether you want them folded or not and maybe I don't always want them folded? . Agree customisation is preferable though.

I think the find my car 1km limit has huge implications if your X3 was ever stolen. As it stands BMW refuse to give you this information which is total bullshit IMO. There is no technical reason why they can't. It's purely so they don't encroach on the very lucrative tracker market. I've called their bluff implying it was stolen and they said they couldn't "see" the location. Technically, this is absolute nonsense. How do they know the phone is more than 1km away if they don't know the location of the car?! Horseshit!

Interesting Sfax re insurance quotes. "So Sir, is you car fitted with tracking?" "Oh yes and please reduce my insurance premium but be aware BMW won't tell anyone where the stolen car is!"

Found another alternative for Drive with DVD
http://www.dvdinmotion.com/

I emailed them and they assure me it's a simple:
Let me know if anyone tries this.

Thank you for your interest in our product. You need to unlock the CD only once and the video then stays unlocked until you decide to relock it again.

You can see the whole installation process here:

In case you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

£100 a pop tied to one VIN is a nice little earner for them I really want an API so I can plug in a laptop and fiddle with all sorts - unlikely to ever happen .

I've emailed the chaps at prochip but no response as yet.
