Anyone use Fuel Additive?
My 2012 X3 (6 cyl non-turbo) which just turned 100k seems like it could run "smoother". It runs great and I don't think there is anything "wrong" but am wondering if anyone has a fuel additive that they use and are happy with. OR... just tell me to use premium, keep the oil changed, and leave it alone. Thanks.

Perceived smoothness could be improved, especially at higher mileage.
For example, what's the state of your motor mounts? Used or failed mounts transmit more of the engine's vibrations or harmonics into the car. Replacing them could make it feel like new again. If it's truly a fueling issue, a good dose of concentrated injector cleaner may help. More effective may be new fuel injectors, or new fuel filter (probably in the tank on gassers). I typically add a diesel fuel supplement especially in the colder months of the year.

BG fuel injector cleaner and their additives will restore your fuel system back to original.
At 100k miles keep in mind that the maintenance schedule requires replace O2 sensors every 60k and plugs every 80k. Failure to replace plugs on time will stress the ignition coils and more. Techron of great but BG is awesome ! |

I have found no need for additives if you're using quality gasoline of the proper octane. But, like Marc posted, at 100k miles, there's a lot of "routine-maintenance" that has been, or is, recommended.

Thanks guys. I never gave the motor mounts any thought. I have stayed on top of oil changes and inspections but admittedly have dragged my feet on the spark plug change.

I would also look at replacing coil packs at that mileage if you are already in there doing the plugs and they have not been replaced before. Air filter should be changed regularly as well if it hasn't, i bet it isn't flowing air as efficiently.
I tend to throw in a bottle of techron with each oil change on all my cars. |
