Anybody thinking of trading to the X5?

OK, Had the AW Msport for 2 years now and still love it to bits. I've already had the dealer chase me to look at swapping the car although I'm a bit wary due to the impending facelift.

Noticed the Brochure in the dealership for the new F15 X5 and liked the look of it.

Just wondered if anyone else is tempted? I told the dealer I'd get back to them

I bought the X3 for my wife, I originally wanted an X5 Diesel. Considering she came from a Honda Civic, the X5 was too big for her. I never liked the E83 X3, but was neutral to positive on the F25 Styling. After getting an F25 MSport X3, I wouldn't want a non MSport F25, it looks so much cleaner. I liked the E53 X5 and really like the E70, the F15 is nice but still think I prefer the E70, will have to evaluate when LCI facelift happens in 2015. She loves her X3, in 3-4 yrs once shes adapted to driving an SUV will absolutely be getting an X5 or X6.

if the dealer "chasing you down" is that you got a letter saying "we have a customer who wants your car, if you would be willing to get out of your lease early we will give you a great deal on the XXXX" its a scam.
everyone gets that letter.

LOL.... Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge dealers are infamous for those letters... I still get them for a Ram 2500 truck I got rid of over a year ago...

Nope, the X3 is just the right size for us.

If we wanted an X5, we'd have bought one. The X3 was the right fit and I'm happy to stand by that choice.

I am definitely doing that...I think the X3 is a great car...it is a bit small for us now....
but I wouldn't "swap" my car with the dealership. Try to find your own buyer and do a trade-through the dealership. Two advantages:
1- Dealers undervalue your car by at least $5k-$6k. You can sell that much more.
2- You can benefit from the tax saving if you do through dealership (only pay the tax on the difference), so the higher you can sell your car in the market, the more you save on the taxes...
that's my 2 cents.

by the way, I assumed you own the car (not lease)...
and you are in UK...so not sure if you have the tax saving trade through option there...

I was originally thinking of a X5 until I saw how big they are and the new ones are even bigger? And I was moving from a 5 series Touring.
Decided the X3 was the right size for us and am happy with our choice.
The new F25 is supposed to be the size of the original X5?

I am tempted to get into the new X5 after going to the drive event. Yes the X5 is a much bigger vehicle but overall it is a much better car than the X3 in terms of quality of materials, NVH and I cannot believe how much quieter the car is compared to X3. The ride on the 20's were excellent compared to the 19's on the X3. However I am not in a hurry so I think I will wait for the 2nd model year X5 if I am going to consider one. Not a fan of 1st year cars.

I really like my X3 for its size, mpg, and handling. If i wanted X5 I would've waited until new Audi Q7 to come out to make my decision, but then full size SUVs are just way too big for my gf and I.

My lease is up in early May, and I'll probably move up. I have to pick up my son, his wife, and two kids (in car seats) at the airport on Friday and I'm praying they'll fit into the X3. I didn't think the period of my life when I wouldn't need a family hauler would be so short!

I test drove a X5 35i and liked it better than my X3, anyway. It felt much more sporty. The steering feedback, braking, and shift point programming all felt better than my '11. As mentioned on other posts, these improvements may have been incorporated into the X3 since mine was built, too.

My X3 20d is coming up on 3 years old and will be ordering a replacement early January (finding the X3 slightly too small, especially for rear passengers)

X5 25d Msport is first choice but not really looked at options yet (also considering 5GT)

We tried the X1 at first but was too small, the X3 is perfect for us. We rarely have more than 3 in the car and with the seats down the space is huge.
My wife takes an X5 on her ski trips (with BMW dealer!) and thats why she was happy with the X3, the X5 is bigger, great for families with teenagers for sure.
So she is driving the new X5 to France in Jnauary - just got to hope she does not want to change....lol

I love my X3 but my wife is thinking she wants an X5 because she doesn't like the drag feeling during acceleration when driving my X3. I had a 2002 and a 325 and I never felt this drag feeling. Does the X5 have that same feel or is more like the coupes?

The X3 is the right fit for us now, but if our family expands, we may need an X5!
