UK Stop / Start
I realise that quite a few folks have had their Stop / Start converted to 'Last user mode' in the USA but has anyone had it done here in the UK ?

It works so well I don't see the point of not having it on..

I am of the opinion it was designed with an automatic in mind as some people who have manual hate it. I dont even notice it now to be honest. Myself and my wife are used to lifting our feet off the brake pedal when the lights are about to change so happy with it. |

I think it has some stupid behaviours tho. Do an hour of motorway at 85mph, take the ramp out and stop at the traffic signal and.... the engine cuts off, stopping the turbo from being cooled down... doh.

Stratstone BMW Derby. They didn't know about it initially until I provided them with the SIB and info provided by this forum. They had to open a PUMA case with BMW and then a pretty long download.
They were most helpful. |

Hello everyone on this forum!
I am a happy owner of the new BMW X3, the date of manufacture VI 2013. This is my first BMW with the system start / stop, and I think I need more time to get used to it, for now annoys me .. But my question is - when I turn off the system with start / stop button (yellow light comes on) after a few minutes of driving, he is active again (yellow light goes out). I did not change even coding and all the settings are straight from the factory. This is normal? In your cars is the same? |

I know that when I change the drive mode to EcoPro simultaneously activates the Start / Stop system, but I do not use EcoPro.
But sometimes I switch from Comfort to Sport and vice versa. Tomorrow I make test and see what happens if I do not change the drive mode. |

Each time you change driving mode, the Start Stop is reset so if you had turned it off, if you change from comfort to sport for instance, it will be reactivated.
I find myself knocking the gear selector over to Sport now as I approach junctions rather than having to keep trying to remember whether it's on or not. It works well if you are sat for a while at a red light, but if you stop momentarily I don't like the engine cutting out for half a second.

I've only had my X3 for 11 days and find the stop/start very frustrating especially when stuck in traffic jams.
I've got over the feeling of panic when it switches off and gradually getting used to not have a handbrake lever - time will tell? Eco mode gets a lot of getting used to too - it's like driving a snail? Rod |

If the traffic means you are stopped for very short periods then manually deactivate it. If I'm stuck at traffic lights then it works well. |

I quite like the auto hold and have started to switch off the autostop when creeping forward in queues.
Just wish it defaulted to these instead of the other functions? It's a bit like flight checks before you move off- Auto Hold On, Autostop Off, Wing Mirrors Out - Lift Off! Glad it defaults to Comfort Mode and not to EcoPro like a 3series I was loaned. Rod |
