Connect hard drive to USB?
I currently have all my music on a 8G flash drive. however, it's running out of storage now. So I'd like to use my spare 500G portable hard disk, but am concerned if it will risk draining the battery? anyone has experience connecting a hard disk to the USB in X3? Thanks

I assume your X3 does not have a hard disk, then. I have never used a typical external HD with the car - but I did use a 64 GB USB stick and that was working fine.

there's only so much power going to the usb port, i wouldn't worry about. i assume you'll be using 2.5" hard drive. when the car is off, hard drive will stop spinning.

Use a 'Y' shaped USB cable. 1st USB connector to USB Port under the phone cradle and the 2nd 'flying' USB connector into the power socket to pick up 12V.
As above, all power drain stops 15 mins after stopping. I don't believe the 2.5inch disk is spinning until you access the US port, but I may be wrong. Roger |
