Horn Delay

Nearly every new owner of the F15/X5 is experiencing a horn delay. We would be grateful if you would let us know if your F25s also have a delay in the horn.

our thread: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1045505

Thank you.

I am not sure if its a delay or the horn is just very hard to activate, I am thinking the horn spring is too stiff. That is one biggest issue I have with the X3, when I need the horn in an emergency, sometimes it doesn't work because I didn't hit it hard enough or in the right spot.

I wish that was the case. We push, The button goes back as far as it can, but there's no honk for about a half a second. In fact, In f15 there is hardly any spring tension to the horn button.

The speculation is that the horn is actually connected to a processor, and the processor is not fast enough to process the signal. Since the problem is not isolated, and dealers are able to replicate it with you cars sitting in the showroom, I had hoped that we could gain more insight by asking you guys, as so many components are shared between the two models. Of course, the dealers are saying that is just how it is designed.

I miss the part about you owning a X5, that sounds like a serious problem and a safety issue. No delay on the X3, just hard to push horn, I guess that's a safety issue as well.

I just hope that your airbag doesn't have the same delay.......
I've owned so many cars in my life, but never have heard of a horn delay. I can't believe it is meant to be by the manufacturer.

Dealer employees were baffled. They all witnessed it. Tried two cars in the lot, and all had a delay. One said that BMW knows. But really, who knows what they know.

Delay is the new "normal".....

My new x3 has a horn delay. It's not quite half a second but it's noticeable.

On the bright side, at least it doesn't have to route the horn request through BMW servers.

LooooL, imagine that...

"Horn Request from m_alnimah at Route 58 etc etc"

- Decline?
- Accept?

What if they decline?

Would be embarrassing!

LOL.....took 29 days for appointment and I had to wait 1:30 for the my loaner car as they messed up their scheduling. They offered a free detail.....which I declined given the age of the car, and that it received a full Zurich Shield just a few months ago.

I say yeah yeah.

On a more serious note, only used my horn once and didn't notice any difference from my previous F25 ... although I think that had a slight delay. Hasn't stopped me accidentally hitting the horn (especially when parked) and getting the one finger salute.

None noticed thus far. It wiped off all my codes, except those related to IDrive media, which leads me to believe it is more of a firmware update for the whole car vs features we might see/can control.
