2014 X3 xdriver28i bluetooth music streaming

Do all X3 xDrive28i come with Bluetooth audio / music streaming or is that part of some BMW "Option" at an added cost? I can get the bluetooth telephone to work, but haven't quite figured out how to use bluetooth music streaming, on the old iphone 4. How do I enable it? The manual is pretty bad.

Also, the short aux/iphone cable that came with the new ride is so short, I am not sure what's the purpose - I meant, the phone would have to be kept inside the storage, and the connection is so very loose that it's very unreliable. Is it just me, or am I not using it right?

Thank you.

You need option 6NS for Bluetooth audio streaming on the '14 X3. You should be able to play music from your phone or other USB device when the phone/device is plugged into the USB port in the armrest.

6NS Enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone Integration

This come in 2014 with either the Technology Package or Navigation (609).

Without Nav, you have
6NH Hands-free Bluetooth and USB audio connection

In 2014, the Nav option got you a lot more compute power plus more connectivity options in addition to the navigation system.

I stress the model year because the way this works and how the options that make it work are sold and packaged changes every model year it seems.

If yours comes with NBT head unit, it is possible to enable it with code. Here is the discussion about this. https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=722706

thanks all for the info. I think Liverman is correct that since my 2014 didn't come with the Navigation option, the bluetooth audio streaming is turned off. I verified it by going to CD/Multimedia in iDrive and didn't see a Bluetooth (audio) option.

@gregwym, I have never done "coding" with BMW or any car, do I need any specialty adapter/gadgets ? Or is it basically downloading the "codes" somewhere onto a usb stick, plug it in and press some magic sequence with iDrive etc ? Is mine likely to have NBT head unit, being 2014 xdrive28i X3, F25? How do I find out, somewhere from iDrive? I'll read up on that thread.

There's a website where you can enter your VIN or a part of it that will tell you exactly what your car has - I'm at work now so I can give you the link myself now but it was mentioned here or on the other English speaking X3 forum.

Edit: I believe it was bmwvin.com

If you don't have the Nav option, i'm not sure about whether you are having all the necessary hardware or not. But you can certainly give it a try.

Guide for coding: http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=715297
If you don't feel comfortable to play with the car urself, find someone willing to code it for you with fair charge.

Just follow the steps in the link I posted. I did exactly what it said and get Bluetooth Audio Streaming working on my 2014 X3 with Nav package.

If true, I find this rather surprising. In 2014, BMW is selling cars without basic bluetooth support? What on earth are the product managers thinking?
