Is it possible to have turned it off? The weirdest thing was, it actually unlocked when I went to the passenger side today. But not on the driver side. I give up, I'm just going to press the button..

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=535938 There are lots of reported problems with BMW keyless entry (google it), but I don't remember seeing any reports on it not working on the new X3

That was a serious post? I though it was a parody. The car annoys you because when you forget the keys you have to get them to open the door? What a dang stupid car this is!!

The Comfort Access doesn't unlock the car when you approach it. Only when you put your hand on or through the handle.

Well, the car is so much fun to drive, who has time to read the manual? But yes, going near the handle will open it only sometimes. You need to almost hold the handle to have it open without pressing the button, for everyone else out there. |

I remember a similar story on the 2006 330i. The transmission would adapt to your recent driving style, so a lot of people who took it easy during break-in had "lazy" autos. Might be the same thing happening here.

I've been anything but easy on the pedal, and my dealer specifically told me there is no break in. I asked him twice and I even asked the manager. Has anyone been told there is a break in on the X3? like 500-1000m/km?

Is this true or just a myth? I have heard this before with tons of cars, that it adapts to have you drive, so if you are normally easy on the car the transmission will adjust to that, I find that hard to believe and sort of pointless, I mean its called throttle control, the transmission should always react to how you use the throttle, not attempt to judge how you drive and always think you want to drive that way.

I was told there isn't a break in period really on new BMWs but I would still take it easy for the first 1000 miles or so, just in case

And it's seemingly universal advice advice (I assume from BMW HQ) as there are lots of posts on here where dealers have said the the same

BMW’s official stance is that there is a break in period and they publish that information to be included with every car they sell. Will I blow the engine if I don’t follow their recommendations? Probably not. The question was if there was a brake in procedure, the answer is yes. If you want to redline it in reverse for your first two thousand miles…go for it. It’s your car. |

To add a bit of value to this thread rather than leave it with pedantic responses:
Up to 1200 miles do not not exceed 100mph/93mph 4500rpm/3500rpm (petrol/diesel), avoid full throttle and don't use auto trans kick down. Or as I put it originally, take it easy for the first 1000 miles. What the dealers and others mean by "not really a break-in period" is with reference to new cars in the past which had much stricter guidelines than just don't drive over 100mph. If you follow the manual to the letter you should also drive moderately for the first 200 miles with any new tyres and for the first 300 miles with new brakes, but I doubt many people do

No, it's definitely 100mph for petrol engines. Clearly stated in the manual, and that's kind of my point, the break-in period of driving moderately 'aint so moderate
