Software update just released
Chaps,
There appears to be a software update (07.12) just released. I'm on hols at the moment so can't do anything with it until I'm home. Looking forward to seeing if my LG G3 now plays nicely with the Bluetooth streaming. Will you be installing or leaving alone? Back to the Prosecco... |

I'd like to know more about this ... Anyone have the details?
iDrive is great, but could definitely use some patches. Mine is whatever the car was built with, '15 LCI Feb 2015 build. I wonder how many versions have come out in between? |

I tried to update mine but the car didn't recognise the update, despite using three different USB sticks.
Interestingly now though the update has been pulled from the BMW.com/update page - it's no longer available for my VIN number, so I'm wondering if the update was either wrongly associated with my VIN or the file was broken and they're fixing it. |

I am unsure whether this applies to you guys (it is not the actual iDrive base software but the patches for Telephone and Media), but last week I went to my very large local dealer for a completely unrelated problem that they fixed. When I was sitting in my vehicle discussing the problem the BMW Tech said he had the latest updates on a USB stick in his pocket.
He plugged it in, and within around 2 minutes the car was updated to: Telephone:TN-002.255.062 Media : MN-002.255.060 Here is the picture.. Only a few days earlier, when I had previously looked at the site and downloaded the appropriate updates they had not worked, because the files downloaded were not *.bin files. The files he had on the USB stick were *. bin files and are therefore readable by the car. Edited. Just tried a test download and the files now showing ARE *.bin files, so I can only assume BMW have rectified this problem. Note 1. BMW UK and also in Germany are very poor at updating the site with regards to the giving information about the updates, because there are so many phones on the market with their own little idiosyncrasies . In fact it appears they are a long way behind. What I do know is that the Telephone update software is the latest Bluetooth software and was for ALL the current mobile phones by the main manufacturers when it was written. Note 2. I would suggest that the latest software [Telephone] is common across most of the vehicles and not just the X3s, pre or post LCI, otherwise the BMW Tech would not have just pulled the USB stick out of his pocket and updated my car. If I had a an X5 or 3 series it would have most likely have worked the same. Mine is an X3 xDrive30d M Sport (63 plate). Note 3. The BMW phone compatibility site shows the update to be only to SAMSUNG S4 whereas I have the S5 and playing of media works using a USB cable, although I do not need it because I have all music on my HD. It is also updated to Android version 5 [Lollipop]. Note 4. There appears to be around 2 updates every year.

Thanks for all that info. Could you do me a favor and go to the BMW update website, put in your VIN, and see what update they provide you? After you have plugged in your VIN, on the next page there will be a PDF file showing which software versions are included in their BIN update, Like the one I have attached below.
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html I'm curious if their website is in fact out of date. My car has versions MN-002.049.003 and TN-002.049.003 in it, but when I downloaded the update file, I get an error when plugging in the USB stick. Someone else said my version is actually already higher than what BMW has on their site... They list the contents of the update for my VIN as: One of the following versions will be installed depending on which vehicle you have: TN-2.34.1 MN-2.18.2, TN-2.18.5 MN-1.37.3, TN-1.37.10 MN-1.23.7, TN-1.23.15 MN-1.21.6, TN-1.21.15 |

Your software version appears to be lower. Here is what I see!
Also the pdf file. Note. My car was built September 2013. As you can see, the UPD can be either UPD05062 or UPD05021. However the version on my car [put on by BMW Tech] is different. That is what is meant by the BMW Tech saying the information is not uptodated!

Thanks, so the contents of your PDF file on their website is older than what was just loaded on your car? That sucks that their website is so out of date and you need to go to the dealer to get it updated.

And that maybe the numbering sequence isn't as simple as the higher the number, the more recent it is, like some here have said (ie that mine MN-002.049.003 and TN-002.049.003 are higher than what's in the BMW update file, which are: TN-2.34.1 MN-2.18.2, TN-2.18.5 I don't get texts from my phone on iDrive. Wonder if after the update that might work at least? I've got an iPhone 6 on latest iOs. |

Gentlemen
It is the CONTENTS of the file that is not completely up to date! I have the Samsung S5, but the pdf file CONTENTS only shows that the latest is the Samsung S4. That is where BMW are being lax and not updating. Also you should read this.... ************************************** Contents This document provides you with information on the software update. The contents of the software update depend on the version of the software installed in your vehicle. You can find detailed information on the soft‐ ware update and the devices supported in the description below. One of the following versions will be installed depending on which vehicle you have: ▷ MN-2.255.60, TN-2.255.62 ▷ MN-2.39.60, TN-2.39.62 ******************************************** That last part with the numbers is going to confuse some people.

So are you able to just use the S5 directly or are you using ConnectedDrive?
Which version of Android are you using? In another thread I posted about my woes of upgrading to Lollipop and I had to regress to KitKat.

As soon as I connect the phone to the USB in the centre console glovebox it switches itself on and then..... There is the ability to use the following options in the BMW Connected App under Connection Assistant because they show up in the car: See note 2 below. Connection Assistant Audio Player - plays music stored on the phone. It is the same interface as you see normally in the car. In other words it is seen as another storage device with music on. Wiki Local (with several sub options) Calendar News (with sub options) Note 1. The BMW Connected App when unplugged also shows Twitter, but there is no option in the car. There is an option in the BMW Connected App called last mile (but does not show in the car). Note 2. When the phone is connected to the car with the USB cable, you do not see anything on the phone because it defaults to a logo and you run the Connection Assistant in the car. This makes sense to me, because the whole thing is operating as one. Note 3. When you unplug phone from USB, all options appear back on the phone in the BMW Connected App. Note 4. When the phone is connected, the Calendar option appears somewhere else in the car. Sorry not going down to double check. Some of this is disjointed and out of sequence, because I have been to the car several times and modified this reply. I have Lollipop loaded. I would suggest that if you have the latest car software installed then it would work. This is the area where BMW just cannot keep up with the pdf file information for every phone. It is all about suck and see if it works.

Thanks - you're using the same method as me but when I installed Lollipop I lost the audio output (even though the player displayed the audio metadata, moving progress/tracking bar etc).
Lollipop on the S5 purportedly supported direct USB access to media i.e. there would be no need to have the Connected app installed but for some reason I can't get this to work and it's an inferior experience to having an iPhone (I hate Apple with a passion but have to confess that the stuff just works whereas on Android there's always a lot of dicking around first). I'll try another Lollipop upgrade and the latest car firmware + Connected app. If that doesn't work maybe I'll revert to the darkside and get another iPhone. EDIT I should also say thanks for all the other notes although I was aware of this. Calendar is useful and fills a gap on the iPhone experience (which still can't even display SMS/iMessage or even email). I'm quite glad the Facebook app is gone because it was just a distraction. I'm also aware that the Connected app downloads the latest car stats to the phone at the end of each session e.g. fuel, expected range etc.

Now however, the BMW Update page no longer recognises my VIN as even having software that's updateable. Previously it either said something like 'Up to date' or, as it did when started this thread, 'here's an update for you'; now all I get is 'this page is for folks with software, numpty' (I'm paraphrasing a little). Does everyone else's still work OK? |

I just entered my VIN in the site, and it accepts it, and offers me BIN file UPD05062 for my car (post March 2014 build), which is definitely newer than when I last tried it a few months ago (UPD05021), which would not load.
The description in the PDF info says: One of the following versions will be installed depending on which vehicle you have: ▷ MN-2.255.60, TN-2.255.62 ▷ MN-2.39.60, TN-2.39.62 Which matches the versions Peter_R above posted a screen shot of, so that's exciting. But, for Apple devices, the support still sucks... ▷ Apple: iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S (iOS7) I loaded it just fine into the car, so that's good news. I'm updated now to MN-2.255.60, TN-2.255.62. Yay, just checked and looks like another update's available! UPD05073 for my car. UPD05073 for my car, Software update (MN-002.255.071, TN-002.255.070). I've got an iPhone 6 with iOS 9. The PDF says some Apple related updates should be in there.
EDIT: I don't see any changes in Office though... Still can't seem to receive texts... What the heck does this mean then? Improves downloading of messages from mobile telephones to the vehicle. (independent of device) And has anyone managed to get Siri initiated via a steering wheel button? . Last edited by Lotus99; 11-04-2015 at 02:01 AM.. |

Works for for me with old iPhone4 (iOS 7) with Siri and Galaxy S4 (Android 5.0.1) with phones connected via USB, cradle or just Bluetooth However, my newer iPad (iOS 9.1) doesn't work - but this is WiFi only so can't tell if OS or lack of cell / SIM as reason. Remote dialogue works well with Siri, less well with Android which more often than not defaults to a voice activated google search rather than speaking answers back to me through X3 with text just on phone screen so not visible while driving Last edited by zalagan; 11-07-2015 at 12:58 PM.. |

So has anyone managed to get Siri working using the steering wheel button, in North America? I've got an iPhone 6, and the latest software update as of today for me is still UPD05073.
These guys have figured out a way to activate it via coding thru a USB upload: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=907282 If you have got it working, which button exactly are you using? The phone button? The voice recognition button? |
