35D LCI Performance

I believe the 35D LCI 0-100 kph spec is 5.3s vs the pre-LCI spec of 5.6s. The 30D has a similar improvement.

Have BMW simply been more aggressive with their spec to fight the SQ5 and Macan or have they improved the engines or speeded up the gearbox?

Thanks for the bump! Maybe folks don't know where I got the figures from. They come from the BMW media pack.

Here's the chart showing the 30D and 35D, the 0-100 km/h figures are 0.3s faster than the pre-LCI. It's good to see the fastest X3 is the 35D, then again it should be given all that torque.

Here are the figures for the 28i and 35i which I believe are unchanged but seeing as we don't get these in the UK I'm less familiar with the stats.

Also,
Noticed that the 30d top speed has increased.
I thought previously the car had a 130Mph/ 210Kph electronic restriction due to the speed rating of the standard fit tyres.
Better tyres and restriction removed?

Hi Clivem2,

i did a quick search, and compared your numbers with those written in my 2010 brochure (X3/F25). Living in Switzerland, the car must have the same spec as in UK. Here are the différences with the 2014 LCI:

0 to 100 km/h times

X3 30d 2010 : 6,2s
X3 30d 2014 : 5,9s

X3 35d 2010 : is not listed in the brochure
X3 35d 2014 : 5.3s

X3 28i 2010 : 6.9s (old 6 cyl. engine)
X3 28i 2014 : 6.5s (4 cyl. turbo engine)

X3 35i 2010 : 5.7s
X3 35i 2014 : 5.6s

If you compare that to this X3 2012 data, the LCI 3.0d can do the same than previous 3.5d. Quite impressive!

Good data! So....has anything really changed or are BMW just being more aggressive with their figures? The engine mapping could have improved or the gearbox programming might have made changes faster (as Alpina do). We need BMW to tell us as 0.5s faster to 62mph / 100km/h is significant! The top speed change for the 30D is interesting.

I just spotted that the power to weight ratios have decreased by 0.1 but the output per litre has not changed. The X3 must have put on weight, eg auto tailgate as standard.

The is great performance 5.3 0-100kmph is likely 5.1 0-60mph.

I hope their might be an M50d derivative x4 which would get my cash, 4.7s usher 0-60mph with near 45mpg

Just noticed you don't have the petrol engine for the x3 in UK.

Still don't understand why they improve the 35d of 0,5 second and the 35i get only 0,1 second improvement.

Btw reading the specs of the X3 lci on bmw.de, I noticed that the C02 value of the 35i is now lower than 200, which is an excellent news for me. I won't have a stupid malus on my annual car taxes, due to the fact my car is above 200 CO2.

If the CO2 values have changed they must have altered the engine mappings. Maybe there was more scope with the 35D. BMW said the 35D was the fastest variant pre-LCI, more so now it seems.

Diesel has strong competition from SQ5 currently, hence LCI chance to improve the remap?
