Retrofit Paddles?

Hey guys,

I've been considering installing paddles on my X3 for a while now. And I was browsing ebay, and came across some good deals on steering wheels. I am either thinking of buying the X5 M sport type 3 spoke wheel (will have to buy f30 wheel instead since apparently that is the one which fits), which I find beautiful.

The other option is the normal M sport wheel, except in this I won't have to buy an airbag and can continue using mine. So this will be cheaper, and I'm actually leaning towards this.

I wanted to know if anyone has tried installing paddles on their X3? Will the procedure be plug and play? Or will some wiring have to be done, like is needed in some F30s. My X3 is pretty well loaded, and only missed out on sports auto gearbox which I coded in and has changed the way the car drives.

Need some help!

@akshay1234 , yes, you can retrofit that by coding.
You just need to make sure te steering wheel fit to the car (center bolt diameter).

Thank you.

So just to confirm, no wiring at all needed? Just bolt on the steering wheel and code paddles?

Have you done this on an X3?

Are you referring to a OEM steering wheel or after market? I looked into this a while ago and BMW quoted me £700 + fitting. This is for complete replacement of the wheel and air bag.

I'm going to get an OE M sport steering wheel, and paddles, and connecting line, etc. The parts is not the issue.

I want to know if any wiring is needed, or does the steering wheel switch unit need to be change for paddles to be supported. I think it will just be plug and play, but want to confirm.

I haven't done it on X3, but done it on F15 X5 and F10 5's.
PM me the last 7 of your VIN, let me check on the parts needed.

akshay1234 , just reply to your PM.
Seems like do-able. But as far as the component, your X3 is similar to the F21 1 series since your car is not the US version.
The US version most probably easier since the design is slightly different on the combo stalks component.
