X3 F25 2.0D 2011 Engine novice
Hello, nees an afvise.
Our x3 from November 11 have now gone app 19000km without problems - up to now! Over the last couple of thousand km the engine have been much noisier, specially with low rev. It is really ticking a lot. I am wondering it can be the diesel nozles as it sounds like a problem I had with a previous toyota avensis 2.0 diesel 2007. This one did the same and Toyota ended up changeing the nozles as they had mal funktion. This solved the problem. The pullpower seems unchanged and same with fuel consumption. Anybody experienced the same with BMW new diesel engines? This is really enoying listening to. Thanks Jens |

A couple of considerations: I've been reading on the italian forum that there were a few 2.0d engines affected by a similar issue. Some were assigning it to the nozzles, some others to (I wish I had a better technical mechanical vocabulary...) to elements to keep tension of the distribution chain. Mi car that currently has about 7000 km, has effectively a low noise that resembles the one generated on petrol engines when the number of octanes is too low. Apparently it's much more audible when the engine is cold.
Second consideration is that it seems that continuous use of V-Power is not only NOT advised but discouraged, due to the less lubricant power of such Diesel. Cheers from the neighborhood ;-) |

Hi Alligator69
It is actually sounding like an old petrol engine driwing on too low octane - I remember that sound from some of my old petrol cars. However this morning, I notiched that it actually do not sound that noisy when it was cold (!), but when I arrived at work it was noticable louder despite the engine was warm First time I hear this about V-Power; where have you seen this?. I thought V-Power was some of the best: Both with this car and the older Avensis there was a noticable difference (to the better) when changeing from more standard diesel to V-Power - a bit more econimical but feeling like there is more pull force when using the V-Power Please let me know more about this issue w. V-Power Thanks Jens |

I don't think the use of Shell V-Power diesel is the problem. I'm in Switzerland and put 65K km, with nothing but V-Power, on my 335d and have had absolutely no problem.
All diesels will sound "louder" when cold. |

There might be something about this v-power!
I found this link on the internet http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=919454 They also talk about less torgue at lower rep when using v-power. I have actually been wondering about this as I find the pull force quite poor with low rep despite it has 380NM and think it is supposed to come in at 1500rpm: I also had a D-cat avensis with 177HP/400NM where the NM first was in around 1800 rpm. Despite lower HP than the X3 (177 against 184) and torgue only slightly higher (400/380) but at higher rem, the avensis was pulling off much more powerfully at low rep than the X3 currently do. I will for sure try normal Shell diesel next time just to see if there is something about it |

Update
Noice worsened and pull force reduced. Went to the local garage: they lisetened for 5 min and agreed this is not normal- I am not that good in french yet but I think this was something they have seen before, maybe not with the F25 but with the engine in general. Booked time for two days "as we probally need spareparts". Will have it back Wednesday hopefully fixed - will give update |

Picked the car up this afternoon After two full days. Called them yesterday afternoon and they confirmed they needed today as well. At pickup they told mé nothing was wrong!!! They have driven in it, checked turbo, checked for software problems, checked injection system - nothing wrong! Despite this they needed the car for two days. But something has changed; the noise I complained is gone - or almost as I still feel it is a bit noisier than a month ago, but significant less than days before the car hit the garage! It is also pulling much better, but some lag below 1500 rpm, cannot really tell if it had the same lag 'in the good old days' Despite this, the garage claim they have done nothing!!! Is this because they won't admit? Or have they really done nothing? We are heading to Denmark Friday (2 x1500km) so I really hope problem is solved On a side note! Anybody with the F25 2,0D having chipped the car? Will keep posted if the car falls back again Jens |
