any way to retrofit OEM navigation to x3?

anything? googling has turned up that it appears possible for the previous model but i havent seen anything on the F25.

i got a aftermarket garmin gps but it does not work that great (loses signal a bunch when driving in Manhattan..never had that problem w/ my built-in I had in my STi). was wondering if anyone had this done + knew the costs of doing so.

You're going to be much better off using an aftermarket nav system. It's cheaper by about $1500 to start with, can be tossed in a few years, and replaced by something that will almost inevitably be far superior than any built in system.

are you suggesting a aftermarket built in GPS or a portable one? i have a portable garmin and its really not that great of an alternative vs. built in. if you have some suggestions on built-in aftermarket GPSs, i'd love to know what would work. I wasnt expecting much in the built in category because BMW doesnt use the standard single/double DIN radios

The BMW Nav system is the thing that I like the least about my X3. I much prefer my portable Garmin, but I don't do much signal-blocking big-city driving.

i'd ask your dealer. Who knows, it may just be a software update with a price tag.

This is the 1st car I've had with SatNav, I've rejected the idea before based on my perception, that for the $$$ you spend on them, they're really not that great compared to 3rd party portable SatNav's.
However, as I say I opted for the pro. system on this car and I like it.
But NOT because:
1) It's better at route planning
2) It's got better suite of features
3) It's such good value (NOT x 7)

I do like it though, because:
1) It's always there and ready
2) Aesthetics
3) Screen is big
4) It's integrated into rest of system, so e.g. deals better with incoming calls/sound/notifications
5) The split screen is quite nice

Things it has and portables have and very glad they both do:
1) Google search
2) Lane advice

Things I have on my portable and miss on BMW SatNav
1) HD Traffic - equivalent to BMW RTTI, I hope it can be added later
2) Speed camera alerts
3) Current speed limit displayed
4) Petrol price locator/finder (very handy)

I'm still getting used to the BMW SatNav, but some things are easier to do the Tomtom, even though it has a tiny screen in comparison and needs to be touched etc.

Agree on most points here. Having everything fully integrated with a big screen is so much better than having something stuck on the windscreen. Would be nice to have some extra features but I'm pretty happy with pro nav overall.

POI's?

Can you add you own or import "Points Of Interest" to Sat Nav Pro?
Just wondering if you can import Speed cameras etc....
