BMW is very Android friendly; more features are supported and more consistent than on Apple devices.

In your Glove box, there are two manuals:
  • Owner's Manual
  • Navigation, Entertainment, Communication Manual

I think it's free for the first three years then it's about £120 a year.

Since I upgraded my Samsung S7 to android 7.0 nougat, the app stopped working. It works great on iPhone.

That's interesting as I have the app on a Samsung S7 Edge (nougat) and it appears to work ok for me, although I must admit I don't use it a great deal. What issues are you seeing exactly?

I had the same thing happen with the BMW Remote app, so changed to the BMW Connected app due to BMW moving the functionality across and it's been working fine.
Are you experiencing an issue with the Connected app or the Remote app?

Got a problem with the BMW remote app. We cant get the new Connected app here in Canada just the classic one. However I did install the new Connected App, but then I cant use my logins on it since we don't have it here officially.... so I stuck. Ended up changing my phone to an iPhone...

Is Apple Carplay available as a once off purchase, or is it a subscription ?

Here in Australia it appears to be a 3yr subscription. Rip off.

I have signed up to the US connected drive portal.
If I register my vin with US portal does that mean I can purchase US apps from connected drive store ?

Don’t know how the backend works,
How do they send purchased software updates to your car?

My 2013 X3 still has connected drive working and I never paid anything to extend it. Not sure if there is a lifetime subscription option the first owner picked?

There is no such thing as lifetime subscription. You may find if you are lucky that someone started the free (3 year complimentary subscription) just before you purchased it. If so, you might have a long time to run....lucky fellow.

If you log on in the car to your connected drive account and look at what is available, it will give expiry dates for the parts that you will eventually need to pay for.

We shall have Android Auto support by now, this is really frustrating!

The main problem w/CD in the US at least is that the last 3G carrier is switching over the frequencies in Feb 2022 to make room for 5G, meaning that cars of this era no longer have any internet connection. BMW could fix this simply by allowing tethering by bluetooth or USB, but they refuse. As far as I can tell, it is turned off to force drivers to pay for the CD service. This is very frustrating, as for my car, there is no upgrade path.

Yeah. There's no functionality issues with Apple. At least as stable as anything else - and more than most.

This doesn't apply to the 2017 model year with the updated navigation system that is compatible with Carplay. I have one in my 35i and it uses 4G. The original 4 yr subscription on the vehicle for CD expired at the end of June and I was able to purchase another year of real time traffic and remote services without issue.

You can visit https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owne...h-and-usb.html and see compatibility of your car & phone (Apple CarPlay and such).

But is it actually working? I have a '17 X35i as well and I noticed in the past week or so that RTTI is not giving me any traffic info at all. In the nav menu it searches and searches and then says no traffic info available. Other internet things seem to still work, like weather and I think searches.
