Chip tune for X4 35i

Hello & welcome

Sorry its my first BMW so I have to ask a lot before doing something. Looking to squeeze more power from engine, and I have come accross many tunes available for X4 35i

TMC tuning box, racechip, Cobb, Burgertuning, esstuning and many more.

I'm not asking for 100hp, I only want the performance to be as X4 M40i. Many sites have tunes for N55 engine but X4 is not in the supported cars list.

Is there any chip tune that is easy to install and safe to drive and not detectable by dealer. I'm keeping my car probably for 2 more years.

Thanks

If the F25 X3 35i is supported then it'll work on your X4 35i.

All tuning will be detected by dealer. There is a risk of engine breakdown. No guarantee.

I have gained about 10 bhp and got even better sound then M40i - which has an electronically enhanced interior sound (speakers). I have: M Performance Klappenexhaust (valves) - approved by BMW and legal in Sport setting. Very nice looks!
Sound as an AMG Mercedes in Track.
You can read about, look at pictures and listen to sound in thread: Has anyone installed Klappenexhaust.... For X4 35i only.

You do realize I have already bought and installed an exhaust for my X4.. Sound clip in your thread.

This is about a tune. There is a high risk of engine breakdown if you tune the car wrong but I'm sure there is a well engineered tune that is safe and not detectable.

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Dinan has a tune for your x4 35i. They also have a new Sport Tune for F chassis as well for $300.

And if your dealer is Dinan friendly then you don't need to worry about taking it on/off when you visit dealer for service.

Dinan is a reputable brand,, However 30HP is less than what I expected but for $299 is well worth. and their stage 1 cost too much. I think I will give it a shot and try it.

Yeah, fair enough re: cost. It's not for everyone. I have a Dinan Stage 2 on my 235, but I recently purchased the Dinan Sport tune ($300) for my X3/N20 (no comparison to your X4 obviously), but the TQ increase is very noticeable. Also the device installs in less than 1 minute and you can control boost via the Android app (iOS app not available yet I don't think).

I also recently installed the Dinan Sport tune on my X3 (N20) and the increase is noticeable. Definitely a great product for the price.

Too bad I can't order from Dinan, they have refused the payment, "it appears that the on-line payment system rejected the credit card due to an address mismatch.".

Too much restrictions from Dinan, I believe theres always an alternative BMS JB+ more Hp less money but no bluetooth

I second the DINAN tune, most SA's won't give you crap regarding DINAN. If you know you're beholden to a certain SA for the life of the car, throw them the $50 or so bucks to install the $300 chip and they'll never give you crap again.

Sorry, the X4 M40i (with the N55B30T0 motor) does NOT have "electronically enhanced interior sound (speakers)" as you claim. BMW calls this "Active Sound." I read somewhere that Active Sound can only be found with the N20 motors in the X4 line.

DBU, some 20 years ago I did testdrive a 40 bhp Citroen AMI at Lotus test track. It had a prototype "sound enhancement system", where I could get the sound of Porsche, US V8 and Ferrari. Sound was played through speakers.

Very impressive.

Exterior sound on your M40i is also very impressive - but not as loud as my M Performance Klappenshalldämpfer in Track mode (illegal). I have also read in a test report that BMW engineer admitted using sound enhancement in M40i.

In your world - what is "active sound", if not artificial sound through speakers? BMW has to comply with European exhaust sound requirements.

Hi,

I recently purchased 2x ChipPower OBD2 ver. 3.0 2017/18 software for my wife's 2017 X1 25i and my 2017 X4 35d and must say I'm impressed, OBD2 chip seems to perform as advertised but need to get Dyno tested to confirm results.

I like this chip as it plugs into the OBD2 port and can be quickly removed if car visits the dealer, no way for them to detect either.

When you get car back, just plug it in and enjoy increased performance.

Advertised gains:
  • Petrol: + 15 to 20% more Power/Torque
  • Petrol/Diesel: 10 to 15% reduction in fuel consumption
  • Diesel: + 25 to 30% more Power/Torque

I must say that my X4 35d and X1 25i do have more power/torque especially from standing still, less to no turbo lag.

I believe the fuel consumption reduction comes from a more responsive car so you tend to need less accelerator pedal.

With a 30 day money back guarantee, how can you go wrong.

Very reputable company, I'd originally purchased a OBD2 Ver. 2.0 chip and while visiting their UK eBay site, noticed they'd just released a OBD2 Ver. 3.0 with 2017/18 software.

As I'd just installed my Ver. 2.0 chip, I contacted them about changing to the Ver. 3.0 and no problems, said they'd post my Ver. 3.0 as soon as I provided postage tracking details but I decided to purchase 2 chips, a petrol and diesel OBD2 Ver. 3.0, then get a PayPal refund of original purchase as my wife required a chip.

I posted OBD2 Ver. 2.0 chip back, provided tracking details and received a FULL REFUND same day, impressive company.

Hi. How was the chip version 3? Does it cause any engine check light on at all? Thanks

Hi,

Ver. 3.0 appears to be working great, can't say I can pick any difference between ver. 2 and 3, just thought having the later software was better.

No engine check lights at all, no negative issues at all, I just feel the engine response is much better with this chip installed and like I said, main advantage I see in this OBD2 chip is that it can be quickly removed if car needs to goto BMW dealer for some reason, no warranty voided.

Thanks Ken. Could you take a photo of the chip attach to the ECU. How could you hide a chip? Is there any room under the steering wheels to hide the chip? I have contacted the guy. He emailed me back with version 2.0. Then I asked about version 3.

Here is the email: According to our database and the details that you have provided us with we confirm that we would have two chip boxes that will fit your car.

Fist is CR1

CR1 chip box is designed for diesel engines with a Common Rail injection system (CR). Connecting this device between the common rails fuel pressure sensor and board computer (ECU) which results in the modification of transmitted data from ECU to the engine related to : Fuel injection, Fuel amount, Boost pressure, Air temperature, Air density, Engine speed Throttle position and other variables. You can install the chip box yourself. With our instructions it is fast and easy.

Second is the OBD2 chip box

The OBD2 CHIP is our most universal and sophisticated chip box and it fits many cars in its build in flash memory it contains ignition maps for many specific cars brands and models.
OBD2 uses a fast and efficient processor ATMEL 20MHz with
built-in flash memory, which is a three-dimensional table
called the ignition map. This map contains information describing the dose of the
fuel injection depending on the number of the actual
parameters, such as:
- supplied air temperature,
- current air density,
- engine speed,
- throttle position.

In both cases the average power gain is about 25-30% for diesel engines depending on the engine/filters condition and oil/fuel quality
In case of OBD2 chip box the fuel economy should be improved up to 5-10 percent depending on the driving style and the engine condition; the most noticeable differences are in urban cycle.

If you buy directly from us the price for you would be :

CR1 – 120 AUD

OBD2 D v2.0 - 180 AUD

So the version3.0 is $190 .

Wait for your reply.

Thanks

Hi,

Can't comment on the CR1 chip.

Impossible to hide the OBD2 v3.0 ChipPower as it connects to the cabin OBD2 plug.

With my F26 X4, I finished up putting 2 cable ties around the OBD2 connector because it sits plush with the plastic surround and I could only remove pilling the cable, thought I might eventually damage, I now just grab cable ties and it extracts squarely.

I put a piece of 50mm wide clear weather tape on the plastic footwell and back of the v3.0 chip box and stuck 2 lengths of Black 25mm Velcro tape (CheapAsChips) on both surfaces so I can remove the chip easily and nothing is really visible. Then just replace the OBD2 box cover and take to the dealer, 10 seconds work.
