Roof Rails, On; Rear Badges, Off
Got the roof rails installed and got the crossbars from BMW Atlanta. Great service and quick shipping. I will enjoy the added utility.
I like the clean look of the rear deck debadging.

Another view.
BTW, the Optimum Gloss Coat is very helpful with the PIA brake dust -- easier cleanup.

Duke, you are entitled to your opinion - but I - slightly - disagree.
I also had to have rails - optional on MY-14, but I don't think they are an enhancement - I tend to not look at them. I believe that the badge at rear complements my island sticker. Orust is the third largest island, while neigboring Tjörn is no 5- we don't talk to them. Text on sticker says: ORUST the large island on the westcoast. We are in agreement on the roof rails. For me they are an enhancement to utility only. I was concerned about the look but was encourage by your comment months back that you do not really notice them anymore. I also now don't notice them much now, especially with the silver-on-silver. Your rear deck is nicely balanced. Definitely a taste issue, but the problem with the X4 M40i badging is that it's like a paragraph. YMMV Thanks again for your help. Duke

Thanks C. I like the wheels also, but they are a PITA to clean. D

Old post, but if you don't mind my asking - what did the roof rail install run you from the dealer?
Edit: Or did I read the OP wrong, and you installed them yourself? Last edited by CQ7String; 12-16-2017 at 07:26 AM.. |

I purchased the roof rails from Bmw of south Atlanta and had them installed by the local Bmw-approved body shop. Saved more than $500 from local deal sourcing and install. Check the BuyBmwparts website too. They have very good pricing -- I just purchased the carbon fiber trim kit from them.
Upon inspection, I thought the roof rails would be a difficult DIY -- it requires removing or at least pealing back a lot of the head liner. I did not want to muck it up and then get into repair/replace costs or figment issues for the headliner.

Cheers man, thanks. I ended up going with the dealer for everything. I have an appointment for the install at the end of the month, and it's about ~$600 for the rails plus another $500 for the labor.
I know I could save a few bucks getting parts online, but I felt a bit more comfortable just having my usual dealer source and do everything. I figure that way if they jack up my headliner or anything else isn't 100% perfect when they're done, they can take care of it. I'll post up a receipt with the actual costs once I get it all on. |
