Winter tire size

I'm picking up my X3 early next month and need winter tires. Anyone who has taken delivery in a cold climate buy winter tires yet? Maybe those in Europe can chime in as to what BMW has been recommending for 18-inch tires? Worst case scenario I can use the stock 245/50 18 size, but I wanted to know if BMW recommends a 235 width.

245/50R18 unless you can -1 to 17" wheels depending on the model you ordered. 28i yes, 35i more than likely no.

BMW will more than likely be recommending Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D Run Flat or the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 Run Flat.

x3 tire sizes

hi,

general rule of thumb, go narrower in tire width, to do so, and not change the outer circumference, you will have to increase the height of the tire.

this is from the Turkish brochure.

7,5Jx17 225/60 R17
7,5Jx17 245/50 R17
8Jx17 245/55 R17
8Jx18 245/50 R18 but there are online calculation pages where you can play with different tire sizes without cahnging the outer cirsumference.
http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp might help. For winter tires I would recommend Nokia tires. They are made in Finland :-)

Are the Dunlops better than the Pirellis? I had Pirelli Scorpions on my cayenne and they did not last long at all...

Treadwear is all relative to power, conditions, and how you drive. I would assume that they will last about the same time.

If you want tires to last, you need to buy a 1980 Hyundai Pony with 13" tires and about 10hp. Tires from Walmart will last forever...

My X3 hasn't arrived yet but the tire guy I deal with has ordered 245/50R18 Dunlop SP Winter Spt 3D for all four corners. As the original tires are staggered, I hope it won't look funny at the back.

The only wheel/tire combo that is staggered is the optional 19 inch wheel and performance tire package. The 17 and 18 inch oem wheels/tires are not staggered. The Dunlops are great performance snow tires…and your X3 will look great with 245/50/18 all around

Are these the tire sizes you would recommend for the 17 inch standard wheels which come on the 28i? I know my 28i is coming with Bridgestone Duellers all-seasons from the factory, However I have had duellers previously on a previous vehicle and they were terrible. Not only did they ride bad, but the treadlife was terrible. Kind of sad I am already anticipating replacing the tires before my X3 is even built! There just does not seem to be a lot of tire options in this size. Recommendations?
