High Beam Assist on new X3

Hi,

I just got my new X3, replacing an X1 I had, and I realized that I do miss the High-Beam Assist thing. I couldn't find any package offering high beam assist in X3. BMW website says ConnectedDrive package provides high beam assist, and I think I have that, but no High Beam Assist as far as I can tell. Anyone has high beam assist on your X3? Do you know what package provided it? Could you get it stand alone?

I see there's a camera on the back of the rear view mirror, so, the car has the equipment for doing High Beam Assist. Does it just need a software upgrade?

I have adaptive headlights with high beam assist and certain elements of witchcraft which is part of the "visibility package"

However I am in the UK .. I believe from other posters on here that in the US there are regulatory issues which prevent its availability

I don't think this is just X3 specific though

Yes that is correct! When we were in Colorado in 2014, we were advised by friends that this is the case. No car in the US had that option.

If this is the same as "automatic high beams", then for my 2013 it's part of
"Driver Assistance Package" ZDH.
This has Auto high beams, lane departure, and Collision. These all use a special front-view camera which is mounted at the inside rearview mirror.

The build codes are
5AC AUTOM. HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHTS CONTROL
5AD LANE DEVIATION WARNING
544 CRUISE CONTROL WITH BRAKING FUNCTION

^^^ I think there are two types of front camera. The one for this package is a KaFAS camera.

I do not think so! Not sure about the codes, so I will have to check the BMW Vin code link.

Here is a link about it in the US. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=884103

It appears that High Beam Assist (HBA) is not the same as Autom.High-Beam Headlights Control.

Here are the codes for the UK cars (late 2013) that give High Beam Assist (HBA).

S522 Xenon Light
S524 Adaptive Headlights

Yeah, my X1 was 2013 and had that. I don't remember the codes though. And I'm not talking about variable headline. Just turning off high beam when encountering oncoming traffic is what I had, and what I miss. I couldn't find any X3 in dealer's inventories with that option.

Here's the bmw's own page about it:

I have a 2016 build X3 and the relevant build code is:

5AC AUTOM. HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHTS CONTROL

This comes with the adaptive (Xenon) headlight option, or as part of a visibility package in the UK.

The Original Poster is saying he does not have High Beam Assist (HBA) on his nw X3 in the US!

HBA is disabled in the US out of the factory, but many threads including the one below say that it can be coded.

See....

What makes everything confusing is this thread.....
