Yes, I am trying the arm rest plug.. and yes, I have all the apps, but nothing happens.. the self test reports a failure with no connection.. yet the cable works fine for music so I know the cable is good.

Has 6NR (BMW Apps) ever worked? You would get that self test message if you didn't have 6NR installed in the car. That's what mine used to say when I tried the BMW Connected app before I had 6NR installed

There is no official retrofit but you can buy a kit and get it done (as I did). Not as cheap as ordering when you buy the car though

Went to see my dealer today, for an order status update. He checked his computer and it shows order status 1200 Orange. It also showed a revised delivery date estimate of 8 March 2012 (originally 23 March). I have told him to keep me updated on a regular basis (unlikely ). I have only changed the wheels from the original spec (self-control or what!) and I will be going for the chrome tailpipe tip. The dealer said it might me here by the end of February. At least there's an extra day this year so hopefully he's right. When I know the VIN i'll try the tracking that sfax started this thread with.

For those of you in the UK whom, like the previous poster, had their builds/deliveries come forward (~1 month seems commonplace recently) - how far in advance were you advised (if at all)? was it days/weeks/months before the newly revised build happened or did they just call and say "it's here!"

I ordered my car in April last year, and was given a delivery date of end January this year. In early October an end January delivery was confirmed; end October it became mid January, end of November I was told the car had been built and would be delivered early January. One week later the car arrived in the UK, and I collected it just before Christmas - a nice surprise, but it does seem to fit the month early pattern.

I like gadgets (prof nav/hi fi), so just wish I had gone for the 6NR. At the time of ordering it wasn't clear what this did (it still isn't clear), but it would seem that this option may come into its own in the future. I have the combox, which I believe to be a step in the right direction, so I just hope that as BMW develop this feature it is offered as a retrofit - very poor marketing, and not very impressive. I would go the Patrys route, but don't fancy fitting it myself.

The chrome exhaust trim does look good!

If you want to keep abreast of the expected delivery date, I would advise weekly calls to the dealer and ask him to check the system whilst you are on the phone - and if you don't believe that he is checking, turn up in person and watch over his shoulder as he checks .

In my case there didn't seem to be any trigger where they called me except for when the car arrived in port in Southampton. But every dealer is different and I called a lot so perhaps other dealers are better are keeping you informed. Start of actual production + 5/6 weeks still seems a good rule of thumb.

Good to see lead times coming down finally

I don't want to bug them. It won't make it come any faster. I just see a pattern emerging recently and want to save the few chasing emails that I will send to the most strategic timings

I would bug them as much as possible. Fills in the time for you whilst you wait and gives the lazy layabouts something to do. BMWs sell themselves and they know nothing about most of the options anyway!

Perhaps I'm lucky but I have nothing but praise for my dealer (Williams BMW in Rochdale).
I got a message from them last night basically saying that there was no change in my order status - but they wanted me to know that all was still on track for an early March delivery.
So, they'd taken the time to check up on my order and give me an update even though I hadn't contacted them and asked for one.

I am really pleased with this as, so far, my dealer has been fantastic and my first ever BMW buying experience has been a good one.

I hope the other dealers are reading this and see what good press a little bit of TLC gets for them

Cheers Plob

Nice to know that there are some good ones but Cooper Reading aren’t one IMO. Never available when you call. Never call back for at least a day. Rarely ever respond to any emails. Insist on reading out the entire spec over the phone when an email is surely the safest and most efficient way to do it. Also a few other gripes about the misinformation like if you don’t get nav you don’t even get the 6” iDrive screen.

All of the said, Audi fell at the first hurdle with my Q5 test drive. I showed up at 8:50, it was booked for 9am a few days before. No Q5. Waited outside for them to open and was told sorry the car wasn’t available. Hmmm, so where was the call yesterday to prevent my wasted trip? Muppets. Glad they were so incompetent though as that was the day I first went to BMW and the rest is history.

Similar comment to Sytner Coventry - it was also my 1st experience of buying a BMW and the 8 month wait was well informed on delivery and return visits to the showroom 'just to look'

Is it possible to track the car with the chassis number? I have received it on 06 January. Delivery is expected mid March.
Thanks for any feedback.

Discounts

Hi Guys

What kind of discounts are you getting from UK dealers? Am in the process of negotiating so I would like to know what is a good offer.

Thanks
