Stereo - switching off

If you're listening to the radio and you have sat nav guidance switched on, is there any way to switch off the radio? I know I can mute the radio and the sat nav guidance volume is independent so it still speaks. I couldn't find the off switch!

I'm not following your question. What's the difference between muting the radio (with the round volume knob, yes?) and turning it off? What are you trying to achieve other than eliminating the radio sound? Given the way the iDrive works, I think I'm asking, what do you mean by off? The knob is the only off switch I know of, but not sure if there might be another option for what you're trying to do.

It's complicated and mute may be the only option but consider this:

When you start the car the radio isn't on. If I press navigation, I have Sat Nav and no radio (it is still switched off). This is the state that I want after the radio has been switched on previously. I know I can't hear it but I don't want it on and muted if possible.

When I go to bed I don't change the brightness on the TV to black and turn the volume down, I switch it off

This may seem picky but because I know the state exists, I want to be able to put the iDrive in that state again. I couldn't find an off switch that pertained only to the radio, so that's why I asked.

This would explain why I couldn't find it!

This came about because I hadn't yet learnt that the sat nav and stereo volumes can be set independently. I was lost and wanted to concentrate and therefore wanted the radio off but didn't want to lose the sat nav voice. Mute works but it's strange to me you can't switch it off. It's a drain on the CPU and resources for one.

To mute the radio, just press the audio volume dial/knob in the center. This should mute your radio/cd, but it will not mute the nav-lady-friend (it gets lonely sometimes

Thanks. I worked that out eventually and found the mute button but I still think you should be able to switch it off rather than mute, with the nav still on. But I'm just awkward!

Maybe my dealer will know how to do this?

I could just not be following but when I turn the radio off I just push in the little volume knob on the left.

Hmmm, do you mean in hold the button down to switch off rather than mute? Doesn't that switch off everything including nav? Will try again later to check

Same here. I don't think that would affect the nav.

I hoped it would be something as simple as this. Will try later. Thanks!
