Unhappy First time bmw owner convenience package

Hi All,

I wish I knew about this forum before ordering X3 2012. I got 1700$ below sticker price.
I ordered X28i with
Cold package 1
Premium PKG
Technology PKG
Key less entry (500$)

Didn't order convenience package( 1700$). My order was submitted three days ago, not in production yet. Are xenon headlight worth 900$? Dont need power tailgate. I am sure dealer will add at MSRP now.

You have time to modify your order right up until about a week before scheduled production. Your dealer should have a build week at this point.

As to your other questions, they are a bit subjective and you'll get answers ranging from "don't waste your money, it's not worth it" to "it's not a BMW unless it has xxx", so you really have to think about that.

Location = Michigan, but you do the weird dollar$ thing....? Like the name though.... drmd, like Doctor MD?

You got it right.

I hope experienced X3 users can help me decide about convenience package. None of people I asked have any clue. Is there a significant difference between in-stock and xenon headlights?

Well, keep in mind that this is purely personal taste.... but I can tell you that the overwhelming consensus will be in favor of Xenons over Halogen. I agree there. Expensive, but you'll look at your car every day and wish you had.....

I forget exactly what the convinience package includes.... comfort access, power liftgate, etc. I have it, but I have all the packages and forget which has what (and at the moment too lazy to look).

At some point, I found it made more sense to get a 35i rather than start adding the features onto a 28i. Xenons were one of those features standard on the 35i that accounts for some of the price difference.

I broke the Convenience package up for my 2011. I went for just Comfort Access and Power Tailgate. I'm not sure which of the many packages that I did order included the Xenons, maybe it was just the 35i, but I'm very happy to have them. My over-40 eyes appreciate them. I'm curious to discover how I'll like them while driving in the rain, but have high expectations.

Where are you at in Michigan? I'm from Western Michigan.....paid $500 over invoice. You can add anything you want to your order (and at invoice cost before your status changes to 112).

Xenons always first thing on my option list. They make the car look premium

I have to agree Xenon lights. I would never buy a car without them. You have long dark winters in Michigan and you can see much better at night with the Xenon headlights.

Okay, in that case.... you're already considering the Xenons... so that leaves $800 for the balance of the package. Comfort Access is good (not as good as the X5 where it works on all 4 doors, but still good) and will spoil you. I have had the side shades in my last 4 BMWs and love them. And the power tailgate is convinient and useful.

If you have the money in the budget, I think you will be happy that you got the package. Just my opinion... to which everyone is entitled, of course.

Personally, I like saying Kalamazoo. It's just real fun to say.

Okay, nice place to visit too.

When we got the powered trunk lid on my F10, the wife thought it was pretty frivolous until the first time she didn't have to set the stuff in her hands/arms down on the ground to shut the deck lid; simply push the button. When she heard that the gate on the new F25 X3 worked not only with the button, but off of the key fob too, there was absolutely no discussion when ordering her 2012 X3.

And as my right shoulder is 25% disabled, after wrestling with her '06 X3's tailgate for the last 4 years, I was already on board. It moved up the options list to 2nd place, just behind the M Sport pkg (her choice; gotta love her).

The key fob will open the tailgate, but you can not use it to close the tailgate. You need to push the button located just inside the bottom of the tailgate to close it.

You really gotta get what you want...

For me.. Xenon.. MUST HAVE...

Connivence opening.. wish I had got it
Powered book opening.. wish I had got it

End of the day, if you have a budget to stick to, then the main car is the primary concern, then toys. and top toy for me is sounds..

Xenon Light

Hey all-

New here to the forum. I just received my 2012 BMW X3 and have been reading this thread on Xenon lights and now I'm intrigued. Do you of you know if those can be added at a later time? Thanks!

It would be extremely cost-prohibitive if even possible. (Several thousand for bi xenons, coding, etc,)

OP, get the convenience package---all of its components are quality additions and the package itself is a bargain when you consider that none of its components are possible to add on at a later date for a remotely-reasonable price.
