I finally did my trip out to east Texas. I got 19-20mpg on the highway. Probably didn't help going about 105...
I'm sure if I did comfort/eco mode I'd probably get better gas mileage! |

I'm another one with the M40D. Stage 1 rolled at 403HP and 793NM and my long term average is 37.4mpg (uk) over last 8000 miles (calc brim to brim measurements).
City \ Urban 33 - 36, Normal Average 36 - 39 (including squirting whenever possible, which is less and less these days) Long motorway runs can easily get 45 - 49mpg (cruise on at indicated 75mph). I find the trip is approx. 0.5 - 0.8 optimistic |

10.5L/100km (22.5 US mpg, 27 UK mpg) in mixed driving. About the same as my Q5, except that the m40i has 70% more ponies of course - so I'm happy
It'll be interesting to see how mileage varies with towing. We have a 3500lb travel trailer, and the Q5 increases fuel consumption about 60-70% when towing. Diesel trucks burn more to begin with but are much less impacted by towing, so they actually often burn less than a small SUV when towing. I'm curious how the m40i will behave. Anyone with experience? |

Received our brand new ‘21 M40i from the dealer two days ago. We drove it home yesterday, a total distance of 780 Km (485 miles). As the engine is not broken in, we took it easy and drove most of the way in Eco Pro at an average speed of about 75 MPH, except for passing on some mountain sections in Comfort mode. We averaged 32 MPG (U.S. gallons) over the entire trip. From what I hear, mileage should only get better as the engine breaks in. 👍

I've now averaged 19.8 mpg over my first 1050 miles. I drive in Sport Individual (most settings at "comfort" except engine and steering), and I do have a bit of a heavy foot. But I've been more careful for break-in. I drive in Sport to avoid auto stop-start.
A mix of local and freeway driving. |
