Congratulations! I love that color combo. I picked mine up Tuesday; 35i M-Sport/SG/Oyster/Fineline, other than color/interior quite identical to yours I suspect, since we have the same sticker price. The learning curve for all the iDrive was intimidating, but I was surprised how quickly it became intuitive. A note on the "standard" audio: If you're an audiophile, you'll likely be happier with the upgrade. If you listen "at" rather than "to", you're be perfectly happy with the standard setup IMO. This is my first non-upgraded system, and I'm surprised that I'm not unhappy. I've had three previous BMW's but that was back when they were so rare and cultish, that we actually waved and flashed lights at each other. Imagine that now - the response would likely be a raised middle finger. The driving experience isn't nearly as engaging as "back in the day", but substantially moreso than the competition and still feels BMWish to me. I have to say that I enjoyed the wait/anticipation, I'm loving the learning experience and the package is perfect for me. Thanks to all who shared their experiences here. That was so very valuable to me. Jim

Congrats on your new X3. Sounds great, look forward to the pictures.
Interesting point you made about the hatch release by the hood release. Our 35i is pretty loaded and we don't have it but the well in the plastic is present for it to be there. I totally want it. I'm going to start a thread about it. |

I picked my Carbon Black up on Sunday and agree with your comments. I have most everything you can get on an X3 besides (I guess) head up display.
I came from an 08 335. I was struck by how big the fob is too compared to the one for my 335. I have been in shorts since Sunday (casual workplace) but normally I wear jeans. I kept the 335 fob in the little key pocket of my jeans but I really don't think I'm going to be able to do that anymore due to the much bigger size of this fob. Agree about the Nav…HUGE improvement! Too many improvements to go into, but one thing I checked right away was the POI search. That was so broken and inefficient on my 335 as to make it virtually unusable (certainly while driving). Now you can just search without having to figure out which category it is in first. I haven't used it much but as a test I searched for home depot by just searching for the keyword "home". Came up with quite a few things that had home on the name but home depot was there about 5 th on the list. It's now actually usable! I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I have heated steering wheel. Saw it in the manual (yes I read it! ) and checked for it the next day and there the button was hiding behind the steering wheel. I got the upholders with rings and net and box as well. Mine has the trunk release. I really love the dynamic handing package. I had grown weary of the hard ride in my 335 with sport package and low profile run flats but now I can have a nice smooth ride most of the time and get back that stiff ride when I want to. Makes a very noticeable difference. |

Nice car! I will be expecting my White X3 with Chestnut Nevada Leather and Fineline Siena Trim. It's already at the dealer but I will be picking her up on Saturday.

Congrats! Nice write up of observations.
I thought it was just me, but I also find the brakes to be softer than typical BMW brakes. Agree on the quality of the backup camera and iDrive versus E70! I think the tailgate release button is only on vehicles equipped with the power tailgate. Could be wrong, but that seems logical - because it is an electronic control not mechanical.

I was really surprised by the brakes too. I remember when I first test drove an X5 and hit the brakes it is was like a brick wall and it stopped on a dime. The X3 feels like every other car out on the road.

Soft as in it brakes to soon because I feel it takes longer to brake than some other cars I've driven.[/QUOTE]
I agree,. I thought it was just me. Doesn't the x3 have pretty good braking performance numbers?? Is it really the brakes are nicht so gut, or is it just a feel thing? Lotus, what do you think? |
