SI B24 02 12 - throttle lag (and steering pull fix)?

Who's had it done and what are the comments?

I dropped my car y'day morning, SA called me and said they need 1 more day. Mostly I will be getting it back today...I am not sure why they need two days for a s/w update. Hopefully my car is not the first one they are trying or testing this update

Just picked up the car from the dealer and I can feel the substantial improvement while short driving back home, 'D' responds like 'DS' and I should adjust to that in heavy Boston traffic.

I did try 'DS' mode and embarrassed an Audi TT driver.... I am convinced with the s/w update.

Did you notice a mileage difference? I'm pretty consistently getting 22mpg in mixed driving and certainly don't want to give that up for an annoyance.

BTW, even with the lag, this car is awesome. Never owned a car that did 0-60 in less than 15 seconds. lol

I had it done two weeks ago in my 2011 35i and have been very happy with the new update. Take off from a stop in normal node and very responsive and smooth. I do have an intermittant pulling (right) issue and an general unbalanced steering feel where turning left feels heavier than turning right. This seemed to be fixed when I first got my car back from the shop and they stated that they recalibrated the steering, but I still notice the steering feels unbalanced and it sometimes pulls to the right. I think this may have something to do with the tires, but who knows at this point.

I'm almost due for my 1st 12,000 mile service and will be asking BMW to upgrade my software when the time comes.

My plan is to print off the TSB as suggested in another thread. However, will there be any way to check the version number or will I just have to take the technicians' word for it?

Beyu, you pretty much have to take their word for it. You can try and ask them to confirm the DME (basically the ECU) and the EGS (transmission control unit) version numbers, should be F025-xx-xx-xxx, before you leave the service shop. I don't think this info is stored on the key fob though.

I just posted in the other throttle lag thread but in recap, out dealer confirmed our SW versions were out of date and is applying the patch currently. Should be ready for pick up later today.

Be sure to whine about throttle lag. They have to haves documented complaint. Luckily, I whined about it months ago when they fixed something minor. Going under the OBD plug tomorrow.

Thanks for the updates. Am excited.

Seems like my mpg data was reset, when I picked up the car it was showing the avg 6.2 mpg and by the time I reached home it was 10.1 mpg. I am yet to drive the car in express way..right now its only from home to train station.

My best avg till now was 19.7 MPG since I bought the car in Oct 2011, I do drive only in city...i never worried about that because my friend's G37X averages only 17-18 mpg.

Best part is the gas pedal response, there is no abrupt power delivery and acceleration seems predictable with smooth power deliver. On the tap roll-on power is now quite good for 221 lb-ft torque, but can't compare it to the eagerness of 35i.

Meanwhile, am driving a '12 328i xdrive wagon.

walendvay, what dealership are you taking your car to? I just picked up a 2012 28i from BMW Seattle and the throttle lag is definitely evident. My wife can feel it in the car when she is the passenger. I'm wondering how long I'll have to drive the car before taking it back in to have the fix applied.

How is the software related to steering pull? Can it fix that? What is it reprogramming?

I have my 9500 mile service appointment scheduled for May 2nd. Should I bring the software code number with me to the dealer so that I don't have to wait around for them to tell me there's no such thing?

I read in another post, someplace, the s/w upgrade is applied to all modules in the car. This includes the steering module, which has firmware to control the feel of the feedback. I read some of the 5 series guys had issues with pull and a software fix took care of them. On our X3s, there was one guy who claimed the s/w fix adjusted his steering pull. I've seen luke warm results.

I had a slight pull that they fixed at about 1200mi with an alignment adjustment, but it is still not 100%

I was just about to ask Walendvay the same thing.

I'm scheduled to have my X3 serviced at BMW Seattle this afternoon.

call the dealer, ask them if they have the code.

I am in Boise.

Dealer didn't know if they had the code until after I brought the rig in.

Service adviser tells me they "fan" out the software to dealers at different times. I think they receive a download of s/w for the entire line of BMW rigs. SA claimed it takes "days" to download.

good luck.

Bonus: got a new 2012 328i loaner! The car is awesome.

I just got a call from SA. He said the software patch fixed throttle lag and rough idle with cold start. But it should be stay over the weekend to fix excessive wind noise from front driver side window.
