Uhm, you should go to a BMW dealership and test drive. Test the X3 without the sport suspension, with sport suspension, and one with the dynamic dampers > could be switched on by going to sport mode> drivetrain and chassis.
And tell us how it goes, if you like one of those settings, we will be glad to help you from there

Ride quality is very subjective. The X3's ride is stable and comfortable. Consider getting the DHP option. It lets you select the ride quality from comfort to sport and sport +. Depending on your preference or who is driving, adjusting the ride quality via DHP is the best! Most important factor to consider is what you think of the ride.

Hi, we test drove a Q5 which included a stretch on a cobbled road. SWMBO was in the back - she said she was nearly ill with the choppyness of the ride . The X3 is a firm ride but IMO comfortable.

Yes would agree with that, we have done 12000 miles in 9 months and very pleased with the ride on both long trips and short country lane stuff too.

It's a sport oriented vehicle. While not as firm as some other BMWs, and configurable with the right options, it tends toward more road feel and less body roll. Some of us here were looking for it to be even more firm. It seems that most folks who post here about "ride quality" are actually looking for a vehicle with a soft ride, as isolated from road variations as possible. Particularly if that is your category, I highly recommend a more robust test drive on roads that will be typical for you. As an example, the X3 will let you feel seams and breaks in the road, but is the smoothest car I've ever driven on a washboard gravel road (there may well be smoother cars for this, my point here is that the X3 departs from the "road feel" category there and may be comfortable if you drive such roads often).

IMHO, our X3 without DHP is extremely rigid and somewhat unforgiving on our bad roads. It can be pretty harsh at times. But that stiffness is there to offer an unmatched sporty and controlled feeling. It is very very solid. We bought a 2013 335i and went with the DHP this time in an effort to smooth things out a little.
My father just bought a 2013 ML350 and it completely isolates you from the road. If you want floaty look at SUVs from Lexus and MB. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being hardest, I'd give the X3 (w/o DHP) a 9, the MB a 3 and if I recall the Q5 was probably in the middle somewhere. |

If ride comfort is your top priority, you should really look at the Lexus RX or the MB ML350. Both the X3 and the Q5 are design for performance with average ride comfort.

I have the priviledge of being able to compare my dad's F25 N52, my own F25 N20, and my father in law's Q5 with the V6. The Q5 is stiffer and feels jittery at speed. Both X3s feel more comfortable, but firm and planted.

The reason comparing the Q5 is both around X3 2.0 and q5 2.0 is both cost around USD 95K here But nevertheless just did a down payment for a black X3 with beige leather! Thanks for the inputs guys |

I have an X3 w/ M-Sport but no DHP (long story, bad dealer). I understand M-Sport has a different strut/shock than the base X3. It also has Goodyear RFTs. If I'm looking for a smoother ride, and DHP cannot be retrofitted, do you have any recommendations? Has anyone replaced the Goodyear RFTs with a standard but nice tire and found the ride to be less choppy/rough? I'd rather not replace the struts/shocks due to cost. Any other recommendations?

My X3's standard suspension setup (Without DHP) is mostly satisfying and neutral. It swallows most of the road imperfections and at the same time keeps the body roll minimal with lil bit under-steer if you are hard on throttle. You don't need a DHP for a city driving unless you take back roads often...so it's one less electronic to worry about.

Delete the M sport suspension if you go M, and have the variable, then you have comfort.. and for added comfort dump the awful run flat tyres, they make the ride even harder

I have the n20 f25 2013 with the m package and DHP and its an amazing ride. I test drove a f25 without the DHP and its more rigid and not as forgiving. You can't beat BMW for looks. The Q5 looks horrible but does have a softer ride but it does not drive as well.
