Angry MPG indicator acting erratic

I'm not sure how to post a video, so I will just explain: When driving, my MPG indicator on the dash is going all over the place. From 0 to 99.9, up, down and back again. It never did this before. Is there a way to reset?

You mean the indicator that is actual numbers for instantaneous mpg that you can select from the menu of items buy pressing the button on your turn signal stalk? If so, it is reacting at all to you driving changes, or does it do this while your are driving a steady speed?

This indicator. It’s usually at 21. I’ve never noticed it going up and down constantly

Correct, on the left signal stalk. There are one or two buttons at the end of the stalk. Clicking that cycles through the in dash menu. It sounds like you're set on the "live" mpg that tells you how much MPG you are getting at that exact moment. IE if you let off the gas and coast (engine braking) it shoots to 99.9 because you're technically using no fuel. (not sure if that is true in auto cars, but it is in manual)

When the MPG is selected and appears (as in the pic above) if you PRESS & HOLD the BC button on the turn indicator stalk…it should reset the MPG.

If you do a reset…then you will probably see the number change (perhaps drastically) since you are creating a new baseline…all the data is new. The longer you drive without doing a reset…the number in the display will become more stable since there is more data that is being averaged over a longer period of time.

BTW, this info is in your owners manual…plus there’s a manual embedded in iDrive that you can open which has multiple ways of searching for info (keyword/pictures/quick reference/etc)…there’s even some great videos (aka animated explanations).
