Rear hatch release near hood release-who has it?

If you have this feature, I'd like to know if it's just a recent addition to production or an omission.

Also, might be good to know what model x3 you have and whether or not you have the premium package and or the convenience package.

Finally, if someone knows something more about this, please inform all of us.

Thanks to alassamike for the heads up.

Copied from other post:

I didn't get it either. I figured that it just came with the power tailgate option. I bet the wiring harness is already there for the switch, but I wonder if an actuator is needed for the rear latch. I find myself just pushing the center dash door lock button.

Premium Package-yes Convenience Package-no

I have the rear hatch release. I don't have the convenience package, but I do have the power tailgate and the premium package.

Judging from the responses and realizing Alaasamike has the convenience pkg., I think you just need the convenience package or the stand alone power tailgate option to get the interior hatch release switch.
Sorry for the panic.

Correct, only vehicles with a power tailgate, either alone or as part of the Comfort Access Package have a power tailgate trigger operation button in the driver's footwell. (duh!) It's not a "release" button, it's an "operate the power tailgate" button.

Before someone asks why some cars with the power tailgate have (2) buttons on the lower edge of the tailgate and some have only one. The difference is that the "stand-alone" power tailgate comes with a close button only. To lock the vehicle, you still need to press the lock button on the remote key.

On vehicles that have the Comfort Package (which includes the power tailgate), the car is delivered with (2), count-em (2) buttons on the lower tailgate edge. the left button closes the tailgate (only), and the right button closes the tailgate and locks the vehicle securely. This is a special provision for people who leave their remote key in the cargo area and want to lock it inside. BMW really tries to accommodate everyone's taste.

Actually, the Comfort Access door locks should still unlock if the key is inside the car, but if you want to try it, don't forget the BMW Assist phone number (USA) 1-800-332-4269.

If that is the case...surely the comfort access doors will always unlock if the key is inside.
Could make a nonsense of security, if you cannot keep your doors locked...
Will have to try it I suppose.

Interesting - the car detects if a key is outside.
If the key is inside the tailgate will go down but the doors will not lock.
The tailgate lock button does not operate until a key is outside the car.

Doors will only open with comfort access if there is a key outside.
