UK Servicing Costs

Has anyone in the UK not opted for the service pack and paid for the individual service themselves? If so what do you pay roughly for each service, just curious to see if the pack is worth having in the long run (bearing in mind I only keep my vehicles 3 years)

I did ask the supplying dealer before I had my current X3 but they didn't respond. My next X3 is coming from the leasing companies supplying dealer but can the service pack be purchased from any BMW dealership? I doubt I will be using the dealership I currently use - I asked for leasing figures over 4 weeks ago and chased twice and still heard nothing so will be taking my servicing to another dealer closer to where I live

My annual mileage is quite low and the service comes up every two years. My first service was approx £220, which was effectively an oil service. The last service was considered a major service (19000 miles) and cost approx £550.

Thanks for that, sounds like the £525 price is quite reasonable then, the mileage I do means in 3 years I will have required 3 services - would be around £1,000 if I paid for individually.

As with ianfp, my mileage is relatively low, but I was told that the last service I had at 4 years old was quite a big one, and would have cost somewhere in the region of £600. Add this to the service I had a couple of years ago, and the fact that there's still almost another year to go (not that I'm going to benefit from it) and it makes sense.

I've got the service pack on my new one as I just like the idea of having a service and not having to pay for it on the day.

I agree with all the above contributors. The sum of £525 is a fair price. I paid less, but you need to take into account the complete package price of the car including addons at time of purchase.

I have a friend who is a BMW manager and he always advises to take the service pack no matter what your mileage is going to be. Naturally the more miles you do the more cost effective it is for you.

I purchased the service pack for £395 when I purchased the car after it was released from the BMW management team at 11 months and 10k miles. It has now done 24k miles and is coming up to 3 years old. It has the major service and several other visits including brake fluid change and I was advised I was quids in compared to if I had paid separate service prices. Don't forget the garage already has the staff and the cost of spares are not full retail, so they benefit from the economy of scale so to speak.

On my previous car with the same engine, I only serviced it once during the 14,000 miles motorway miles I covered. A fluid and filter service at main dealer cost me £420.

If you are expecting to average more than 15,000 annually over a 3 year period OR if you have a big engine, a service pack is good value. If your mileage will be low or you are likely to change car, it's not a bad decision not to buy a service pack.

There is always an option to buy one before the first service.

I bought the service pack for peace of mind, and knowing I don't have to pay each time, secondly if I were to sell the car before the 5 years, then it's another plus point to a perspective buyer.
P.S no plans to sell her

I have always done my own oil changes on family-owned cars, as much to feel comfortable that the job has been done properly with the correct oil as for any other reason. With advancing years I am less inclined to jack the car and crawl underneath but this year I have been really pleased with the small pump I bought to do the job from the top of the engine bay. I found I not only avoided getting dirty I also had less trouble with the old oil, as the pump can discharge straight into the oil container retained from the last car I did. Once the old oil seemed to have stopped flowing, I added half a litre of fresh synthetic to the top of the engine to help draw out the last few ccs of old oil. I will probably do it the hard way every couple of changes, just to avoid the sump plug seizing up. 5 litres ll04 plus a filter cost about 40 UKP

I am now in the same position. For 40 years I used to put the car on ramps (still have them) or the car club hoist/ramp. For the last 12 years (yes I am that old) I have owned BMWs and the oil change has been part of the servicing package. Now that I am not doing high mileage I am going back to doing an interim oil change at about 8k miles from the last one. I do have the 5 year servicing package that has 2 years to run.

Which pump did you purchase? Where from and the cost?

Thanks.

The oil pump I bought came from Lidl and cost £11.99.

I'm also expecting to use it for a gearbox and final drive oil change, where there are few alternative options

Thanks. Need to look out for them. Hopefully they will get stock in again soon.

Sorry to dig up old thread. My X3 is getting delivered in couple of weeks time and I am looking at buying a service plan. I had a service inclusive plan (5yrs / 50K miles) on my F10 but since BMW changed the service inclusive plan to 3 yrs / 36k miles, the local dealer has offered pay monthly )interest free) service plan as an alternative. I have been quoted £776.55 for next 3 years to cover:
1. S1 - Oil Service 1
2. A1 - Brake Fluid
3. A2 - MOT
4. S2 - Oil Service 2
5. A3 - Vehicle check.

I know the previous service inclusive plan (5 yrs / 50K miles) used to cost around £475 so not sure if the £776 over next 3 years covering above services is worth it considering individual service costs.
Could current F25 owners please share their thoughts? Thanks in advance.
