Drivetrain malfunction after reconnecting ecm

2018 x3 xdrive30i. 68k miles
Leaking coolant from rear ds of engine.
Suspected oil filter housing.
Replaced said housing.
Not only does it still leak coolant from same spot.
But now the car won't start.
Dash complains of "drivetrain malfunction"
I quadruple checked the ecm connectors and pins.
All good.
There must be something I'm missing.
Any thoughts?

Did you disconnect the battery before connecting the ECM?
