Tow Hitch

Returned my 4 day old X3 3.5i to the dealer to have the BMW tow hitch installed - looks like it's a long processs to get it programmed for the PDC and the back-up sensors to play with a trailer behind the X3. I'm also haveing a 3M tape installed so here I sit with a 328Xi loaner...

Yeah, mine took almost 3 days with the install and programming. Great hitch, nicely integrated with the backup camera and PDC.

Let me know how it goes. I was going to have the dealer do that before I take delivery.

Mind sharing how much you paid for the hitch + install? Considering it for a hitch-mounted bike rack rather than a roof mounted solution.

Wow, 3 days is ridiculous. I only took my dealer 4 hours. It is a great hitch though and I love the zoom on hitch function of the backup camera.

What type of hitch did you get? BMW does not make one for M package.

I'm pulling a 17' Bayliner outboard. Goes up and over Sno pass and the climb out of Vantage like nothing is there at 70mph, and gets 19mpg doing that!

Took mine a couple of days, because they had a glitch when programming it, and it took 5 hours to program, according to the service writer. No telling why 3 days unless they were busy and short-staffed.

Doesn't look that bad with the MSport when the hitch is removed. I actually keep mine there as an added bumper so my MSport bumper doesn't get damaged when I drive to NYC and someone love taps me while parallel parking. I use it with my Yakima 4 bike swing daddy hitch and to tow a jet ski on occasion.

Paid $800 (part of the sale price of the vehicle)
took a day to install

Does anyone know if there are hitch bumpers which look nice that I can install?

X3 hitch not compatible with attachments

I bought a dealer installed hitch for my new 2012 x3, $1500. The bike rack and tray rack I've had for years and with several other vehicles do not fit the x3. For some reason, BMW has slightly more rounded corners than a standard hitch making it useless unless used with the ball mount it came with. Standard attachments from other mfrs do not fit this mount. The dealer (Norwell mass) refuses to address the issue. Has anyone else had this issue.

I am about to get mine done (although they want $3000 in Australia to fit it!). Some photos would be great if anyone has some to post.
