Water drains from door when opened.

In case anyone has experienced the same issue - When I leave my X3 parked for a while in wet weather, I find on opening the driver's door a quantity of water drains out onto the road. This has apparently been held within the door until this point. I presume it is entering the door down the outside of the window past the outer rubber horizontal strip, though the strip looks OK visually. Has anyone experienced this, is it really a problem, what might be the cause.
thanks,

If the water is draining out of the holes (they are drain holes) then this is normal and to be expected. It happens on all cars.

Having owned the car for the last 3yrs, I came across this today. I opened the drivers door and what seemed like a lot of water fell out. When I looked at the bottom of the door you could see the water dripping off the main plastic section of the door, near to the puddle light, so it must have built up quite a bit.

If this is what other people have seen, then no problem, but it did seem like a lot of water! It made quite a splashing sound, which as I say is unusual and never seen before.

If the water is between the plastic door panel and the metal part of the door itself and not out of the drain holes on the seam where excess water is supposed to drain out, then you should need to investigate this, because you may well have a problem. On most cars (I am not 100% sure about the BMW X3), there is a thin plastic vapour lining between plastic door panel the metal door that will need inspecting.

I've just gone out and wiped around the bottom of the door panel and you can see water seeping out of the door panel, so it doesn't look too good. I'll mention it to the dealer the next time I'm passing and see what they say. Thanks

I was able to reproduce it by pouring water against the corner of the drivers side door window and saw some water come out of the very bottom of the door, as well as some between the plastic door panel, so there is definitely an issue some where.

The same process on the other doors show no sign of water coming from between the plastic door panel and the metal frame.

This seem to be a problem confined within the British Isles. Due to RHD or is there another probable explanation?
