B47 or N20?

Hi all,

I am planning to buy a pre-owned 2016-2017 X3 F25 Xdrive, coming from an E87. My budget only allows me for the 4cyl models.

However I am torn between Diesel (b47) or Petrol (n20). I have heard to stay away from the Diesel model due to possible Turbo issues etc..

Just wondering if there are any truth to this? What's the pros/cons for both engine models, from your experience if you've driven one of the two.

Welcome!

Both are turbo, but that's not what you should be focused on.

More important is to figure out what you need: better fuel economy or speed? Availability and price of fuel a concern? Longevity of engine favors the diesel as there are many running around with over 150k miles. Not sure how many gassers there are that can go the distance.

Spend some time on the diesel subforum: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=488 and do your own research before spending hard-earned cash or, worse, borrowing it.

I'm partial to the diesel since most of my cars have been diesel-powered.

I own 2017 F25 since March this year. No big problem thus far. Only one spark plug and coil need to be replaced. 2017 is the last year of F25, so most issues with this model were sorted out.

I feel like driving a sedan even though it is a SUV. I like the car.

Thanks! I went with the Petrol as it felt nicer to drive. I dont see myself owning the car for more than 5 years, so i think petrol version is a safe choice. (hopefully)
