I've used it behind a snow plow in the mountains in the winter...but somehow I get the feeling that's not what you mean. Are you asking if anyone has mounted and used a plow blade on their X3?

a plow is too heavy and greatly exceeds the front end specs.

Agreed. You need more like F150 / Silverado kind of chassis for a plow. Even then you'd be wise to buy an old one that you care less when things begin to fall apart.

I have seen some light duty plows that claim they can hook up to the X3 for clearing your driveway but not for commercial/heavy duty work. I was just curious if anyone here had tried it or not.

If my wife and I get a new house with a long driveway, I do plan on using it as an excuse to pick up something for winter plowing...maybe an ATV with plow attachment...

This! Plus you get an ATV, if that is interesting at all. If you have a long driveway then it may be a big yard, and it could help w/ other crap too.

Snow plow?

Spend $500 on a 2 stage snow thrower. Damage the front of a X3 and find out how much the repair will cost. No comparison!!!

I've been using my John Deere garden tractor/mower with a 42" snowblower attachment on the front for my 750' x 20' driveway here in MD for the last 20 years. I also have a 48" plow for it and even though it's ~1000 lbs, if we get 12"+ of wet snow, it struggles with a plow, where the snowblower just eat it up without issue. If we really get dumped on or many back to back snows, there's no were to put it with the plow and driveway gets narrower and narrower, where the snow blower gets it well clear of the driveway. I use the plow for when the snow is less then 6"-8" since it's faster than the blower. Over 6"-8" I use the snow blower. The blower is driven by a belt from the tractor so no extra engine to maintain.

If you'll need a riding mower for the yard, I'd recommend getting snow blower for it and go that route.

I have a 1997 Chevy S10 4X4 with ZR2 offroad package that's more than capable to mount a plow, but plow work is really hard on a vehicle, so I went with the garden tractor option.

The X3 could probably handle small snows with a plow, but when we get a nor'easter that dumps deep wet snow, forget it.

Nice setup. I'd do the same if we had snow.

Yup, this setup works well. Even though MD doesn't really get that much snow, sometimes we get dumped on with heavy wet snow from a coastal nor-Easter storm, and when we do, you better have equipment that can handle it. The last 2 years, I didn't even break out the tractor once. I'm sure some people here that see real snow laugh at Marylanders when they say they got a big snow.

I'll take the snow over the fires, so devastating....

Could do this,

I’ll stick with my Kubota, but the above may work depending on conditions of OP’s circumstance.

That's interesting, though I'm having trouble understanding how it can remove any appreciable snow off the driveway unless you kept pushing it off to the side by going backward and forward. By backing up straight, I just see snow piling of in font of the plow and start coming over the top since the plow is not angled. Maybe for small snow amounts of a few inches, but I live in the same area as najnad and we can get dumped on with a noreaster in the 12"-24" range. For $1200, one could purchase a pretty substantial snow blower and get the snow well off the driveway.

I tried. I failed. The snowplow is too heavy. I just decided to buy a John Deere SB11 Series since we moved to a new house with a long driveway. Yes, in the summer, we are preparing for a long winter ahead. Also, I was thinking of changing the oil. But reading on https://trimthatweed.com/how-to-chan...in-snowblower/ I have found that it's not advisable. It's better to change the oil a dau before using the snowplow; in this way, you prevent it from turning into sludge.

In order not to miscalculate, you should always be based primarily on the peculiarities of the site. For cleaning a small area of 50-100 m2, it is enough to buy an inexpensive electric non-self-propelled model or a battery-powered technique - their capabilities will be enough to clean the area from a small amount of precipitation quickly, and their compact size will allow easy storage right inside the house. If the snow layer is average in thickness, electric models are not as effective. A gasoline-powered device that can be found at https://www.growgardener.com/the-best-garden-tractor/ will work much faster with a large square area.

I've never needed a snow blower. Yes, we do not have such a huge layer of snow as in Alaska, but not 8 cm. Therefore, I have been using a shovel all my life. I recently thought about buying a snow blower, but realized that this would be more a manifestation of laziness on my part. Yes, it's comfortable when you got out, started the snow blower, operated it for 5 minutes and went to do other things. But I like the process itself better. In the warm season, I run in the morning, and in the winter, I throw snow in the morning so that there is at least some physical activity. Therefore, I believe that this is more about comfort than about benefits..
