Broken back window
I parked my car on the street overnight and back window was broken as usual in San Francisco. I called BMW first and got $2,800 quote. I had $500 deductible comprehensive Geico insurance, so I was about to bring my car to get serviced, but I saw some article Geico does no covers if I get service from BMW. They only covers window if I get service from 3rd party($600~$900). I just got new window from 3rd party.
Is it normal they charge 2,800$ for back window? Any insurance company covers these kind of repair from BMW service not 3rd party? |

- used OEM window : 280$ including installation. - Aftermarket window : 520$ including installation. the guy also included minor rust repairs. One thing for sure, my BMW will NEVER go at the dealer. Once again , can't understand why they are still trying to get XXX% profit and not having the job , instead going in the XX% profit and get the job... I went OEM, and honestly the window was like new. |

They have comprehensive plan that has $100 deductible. But they don't pay out if I go to BMW service for windows that more than $2k. Otherwise Geico covers if I go to 3rd party shop which is much cheaper than BMW service.

First, it's unlikely that your dealer actually does the work in house. It's likely sent out to a specialist that they have some kind of relationship with. $2800 does sound excessive though, but you are in the bay area. BMW MSRP for the glass itself is $700 for standard and $910 for privacy. Typical markup is +30% over MSRP. Their actual cost is well below MSRP. Ideally you would find out who does their glass work and get a quote from them using BMW glass. However all this takes time which you may not have.
