park distance control - tone

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way of either turning the PDC signal tone off (I know how to lower it down - that is not an issue) or even assigning your own desired distance between the car and near by objects to be represented by certain sounds. So lets say I want green graphic sound to represent 10" from an object, yellow sound to be 5", and red to be lets say 2".

Or could this be possibly included in some future software update?

I love the camera and graphic representation of the park distance control mode, but the acoustic is very confusing. The beeping sound gets flat even if detects objects 10" away which starts freaking me out and I start losing focus. My garage is tight and tricky on some spots and the car will beep the same, with the most alarming tone all the way into may garage. Camera and graphics do help me, but the sound is very distractive, over powering and over alarming.

Tip: Be advised not to keep your car key in your pocket. It happened to me that, I have accidentally opened the tailgate in a spot with a very low ceiling. At that moment, I was not aware of the button above the drivers left foot to stop the opening of the tailgate. Almost to scrap the door. Stay safe and put the keys away from your pockets.

The BMW leather key cover is the solution. Prevents unintended locking, unlocking, and tailgate operation.

Do they make that in "ginormous" to fit the new X3 key?

Thanks for the tip. I always have the car key in my pocket. Like you, I also have tight and low ceiling garage. It would be disastrous if the tail gate opens while backing up...

One of the few times that not having the power tailgate is better than having.

@ Key: I'd say that's a bug. Tailgate commands from the key should not be accepted when there is a driver in the seat or the gearbox is not in N or P.

By the way, for this car model, how do we get it. Do we have to buy it separately or this is something you can ask for from dealer?

The model is a limited edition Schuco "Collectors Edition" ultra-detailed 1/43 scale. With a strong enough magnifier, you can read the BMW logo on the steering wheel and the dials on the instruments. Even the central console is woodgrain finished.

Stock Number is Schuco No. 45 074 4800, and is currently produced in (6) BMW factory colors. It is a 35i petrol engine w/sunroof and VDC switches (hood opens and engine is very detailed). Schuco claims they will produce just 1000 pcs. of the 2011 version.

Some BMW dealers can supply a model, but it is much less detailed and seems to only come in glossy black (but is also much less expensive then the Schuco).

I got mine in Germany from Peter Nasshan Modellautos in Mannheim. Pricing is in Euros, so will depend on the current exchange rate.
see: http://www.nasshan.com/index.php?sto...&searchvendor=

The leather key cover is available from any BMW dealer and comes in many colors. My wife and I use different color covers to avoid mixing up our respective keys.

I enquired about leather BMW key covers and was told there weren't any. I suspected that as with most things I was told by my dealer, this was BS. Will do some searching. Thanks Lotus.

P.S. You had any 4x4 warning messages on that model?

Cheers. I actually had a look there just after I posted. I assume it's the same size key as the X5?

Amazon.com also sells a nappa leather cover that fits the X3 key:
http://www.amazon.com/BMW-Genuine-Bl...5287048&sr=8-1 This is a BMW OEM part that any dealer can order, at least in the US. My dealer has a case full of them.

One suggestion: Put a drop of Locktite "Blue" on the BMW logo screw [threads] that holds the cover to the key. Otherwise they have a tendency to unscrew.

Cheers Lotus. I'm having a look on the UK amazon now and I see that one although it's shipped from the US. Surely it must be available from a UK seller too!?

Love that idea. Does the unintended stuff happen a lot? Where did you get the cover?
