Can the black plastic be waxed?

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but can the black plastic trim be waxed, or will it leave a white residue?

This could be a real detailing pain avoiding the black on the rear bumper and around the wheel wells if this is a problem.

In general no, however I'd consider a sealant of sorts when I get another newer x-car.
