Need for air purge tool for coolant fill after water pump change?

Can anyone comment on how you went about refilling the coolant after replacing the water pump? Was it solely through the expansion tank without a vacuum air purge tool? Thinking that with that much fluid loss during the water pump change a Venturi type tool would be needed to create a vacuum to fill the system back up to purge air, that the bleed cycle may not be sufficient.

Thank you and best regards,

Aleks
