Xenons vs halogen
Don't see many close ups of the halogens but here are a couple that highlight the difference with xenons

Audi S-Line have xenons as standard, as do X5s.

Usually the outside set are Bi-Xenon used for headlights and full high beams. The inside pair are usually halogen bulbs used for flash to pass high beam. The rings are lit using LEDs. |

Adaptive headlights are definitely not free with xenons in the UK. In fact they're an extra £215 ($335) and only available as part of the visibility package. Xenons are £920 ($1435) so that's £1135 ($1770) for both. On the US website they are a $900 option. By my calculations that means we have to pay twice as much for xenons and adaptive headlights.

bi-Xenon feature costs ~950 Euro Adaptive Light Control costs additionally ~500 Euro So, all in all we have ~ $1900 for both functions. Marketing.. |

Hi, do the Halogens headlights have Corona rings which can be seen at night? Don't care much for daytime running lights. Too costly where am from its 3000 euro option and could as well forgo it and get a sunroof.
Halogen look fine IMHO in black upclose Last edited by Bimar; 01-14-2011 at 07:52 AM.. |

The halogens look much better in this photo to be fair and if it's costing you a ridiculous 3000EUR I can see why you're not keen. No idea on the Corona rings but I would recommend seeing xenons in action if you can (from inside and outside), just in case.

There are no angel eyes (corona rings) with Halogen as it's obviously seen from the pics above and this review:
http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472639 I wonder if it's possible to buy Halogen, BUT with Lenses optics (e.g. it's possible with bmw 3 5 and also in Mazda 3)? If the answer is yes - corona rings should be possible, and consequently there should be two options for Halogen headlights. |

That's exactly why they were a no brainer for me. I think once you've owned a car with xenons, it's difficult to go back. This advice comes a little too late for you unfortunately but good luck

+1 on the last
Currently driving a rental car after moving and while waiting for my X3. Lack of xenons is more than noticeable. Also, my car in Switzerland didn't have them. Driving the Autobahns and the mountain roads was notably different without the coverage, distance, and clarity afforded by the xenons. Not to mention the adaptive headlights -- would love to have had those on the windy mountain roads so I could see more of where I was going and less of where I shouldn't be going!! |

If the stockers are 55w, you might have to get something that is also 55w…or at least closer to the oem. I remember folks having all kinds of issues trying to put in different bulbs in their e90 and e92s (although that was to whiten the angel eye color).
