Installed new switch today - took less than 5 minutes. I'll test it tonight. Thanks for the information provided, it helped!

Tested the switch - fog lights come on in any swith position other than just the running light LEDs. Fog lights "appear" to be independent of each other.

Awesome mod! You Sir, are a pioneer in the X3 modding process...and I'm following in your footsteps. Just did the mod tonight. Took all of 2 mins to install. Wish all mods were that simple.

What's up next for you? ECU tune, exhaust???

Installed the switch in about 10 minutes... piece of cake and great mod. The extra button on the switch sure looks better. My car also shows and orange fog light emblem in the dash now. Props to dandanio with the original thread and instructions.

New switch looks like the old switch except that the lower button is the rear fog light. Front light must be on for the rear light to work and deslecting the front fog light will also deselect the rear light.

In addition to DonC's notes:

Pressing the front fog light button automatically turns on the head lights. Pressing the rear fog light switch does nothing unless the headlights are already on.

Unlike the front fog lights, disabling the rear fog lights do not automatically turn off the headlights.

Then there's this one other "feature". The rear fogs are as bright as the brake lights. So, when you get some "enhanced driver" right on your rear bumper, the rear fog lights can provide a bit of discouragement when turned on at night (or basically when the headlights are on). Well, at least, here. 90% of the drivers in the U.S. have no clue about rear fog lights.
Worked for me, anyway.

I should do this mod because it's always foggy in Daly City no matter what day or month or season. Weather here is very unpredictable, fog will suddenly appear out of nowhere.

This may not be the best thread to ask this question but can it coded to have the rear fog lights turn on whenever the front fog lights are turned on?

Coding only changes the values of the already available parameters. You need to do programming to achieve extra functions but such tools are not available to outside BMW. A better way could be to mount a relay inside and wired to fog lights terminals. I have not tried it but I see a technical feasibility. One may need a two pole 12v relay costing few $$. Front fog light switch should activate the relay and each pole of the relay should switch on one fog light each.
