Bogus left tailpipe?
The other morning was a bit cooler and noticed, while the car was running in my driveway, that the left tailpipe had no exhaust (smoke) coming out. I put my hand up on the left tailpipe and surprisingly, nothing was coming out, unlike the right tailpipe.
I read an article just yesterday in "Bimmer" and funny enough, there was a question posted by an "E Series" owner who noted the same thing. The response was and I'm paraphrasing here; the left tailpipe only kicks in at 2,000rpm..... Weird. I never knew that. Learn something knew everyday as they say.

It's been talked about on this forum before. Basically the 35i has an valve on the exhaust system that allows the system to open up under full throttle for better performance.
check out the Post from Lotus7 in this tread if you want a better explanation: http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=611332
