Took delivery of our 2013 X3 28i

This morning my wife and I took delivery of our 2013 X3 28i. From signing on the dotted line to the car sitting at the dealer took about 21 days.

My first impressions are that the N20 works very well as a powerplant. The car has lots of pep and performed better than I expected on our way home in a 20 mile mix of interstate and other city traffic. Power and torque out of a full stop were good with a nice BMW tone to the engine. My comparison is a Z4 with the 2.5i and steptronic. While my wife and I are both recently retired, I have been known to (ahem) drive the Z4 in a 'brisk' manor.

The auto stop feature took me by surprise the first time the engine quit at a stop light, but the restart is instantaneous when the brake is released. I don't feel that this feature will be a problem at all. Otherwise, the car is smooth and quiet and everything we expected. Those that are awaiting delivery should be pleased.

We are looking forward to many more miles.

Great news and it'll be nice to get additional impressions of the N20 as the miles roll by.

Glad you're loving it. Did you happen to test drive last model year, so you can compare them? Would love some feedback, apples to apples. Please post something about your average mileage once you've got it broken in.

Obviously, congrats on your choice.

We did drive a 2012 28i and my thoughts would be that the N20 does at least as well or a bit better in performance in Comfort mode. In Sport mode the initial jump out of a stop is, of course, better. In eco mode, less so, but still not bad. I am also getting used to having the 8 speed so shifting points are in different places than my older Nissan with the CVR transmission. Just my feelings at this point. Still very happy with how it performs.

We leave on Friday for an 1800 mile trip. We will see how the mileage does at that point.

Cool, this seems like the first N20 we're seeing in the states. I thought they weren't showing up until May.

E.p.a. Rating On 2.8i

Looking forward to picking up our 2013 x3 by the end of this month.the e.p.a.rating of 28 highway was surprising but i think once breakin is done you could get around 30 mpg. my dealer mentioned that you should be able to run mid grade fuel in the n20 [octane ratings in the u.s are greater here vs europe] let the anticipation begin.

Seems like the '13s are definitely rolling out so far all are looking like 28i models. Any 35i MY13 out there yet?

I remember I saw a video saying n20 engine takes 89 gas somewhere back then. Is that correct?

Same octane requirement on the 2012 28i. If you check inside the filler door, little sticky says minimum octane 89..which in canada is mid grade, premium is 91 octane
