My friend Rob in his X3 28i M, he knew it would be bad, but hey now you see the difference. We went up to 55mph, notice how he got a head start on me by about 3/4 of a second, lol

not a surprising result, if you friend chipped his 28i, that would now be interesting to see.

why even bothers. a v6 vs a v4... common. i don't care how much turbo boost any car dealer try to make out of a v4 engine, it's crap.

it's even worse trying to sell many v4 bmw for $50k.

Both engines are inline / straight?

As we only get the 35D in the UK I would be interested to see 35i vs 35d. Once rolling the D must surely be faster with an extra 160ft-lb??

It would be close- depending on the length of the race, could be harder to keep the 35d on the boil

For someone according to your profile that has 2 GLK, not sure you can make a good call on this.

Now here's the video of the X3 35i again vs X3 28i RaceChip tune vs X3 28i Dinan vs X3 28i stock and X5 35i stock

Nah man you have it all wrong.

First of all, there's no V-anything. They are all inline engines.

Second, the i4 doesn't have the natural punch of the 6 but it's more powerful than its underrated and it's a very competent engine. Most people estimate it actually puts out 270 hp at the crank, and more importantly more than enough low end torque. The X3 28i doesn't feel remotely slow for a 4200 lb vehicle.

Third, it's $5k for the engine (at least in Canada) and lots more in extra gas for the life of a car.

I admit if money were not object the 6 is a better engine by a mile, but in reality you're dissing a very good engine that's more than motivated to do its job.

In the US it's only $3100 extra for a comparably equipped 35i vs 28i if they both have the premium package, $2750 if they don't have the premium package and you just option the panoramic moonroof and lighting package on their own to bring it to par. If you don't want the moonroof or xenons, then you save the full $5000.

I admit that it would be tempting at that price difference, but if i was going to spend an extra $5k for an engine, it would be in a 3 series.

I could take the $6k "Premium Package Enhanced" (Canada) out and get the engine but I would be giving up a long list of features including: GPS and larger screen, power hatch, comfort access, HK audio, Pano roof, Xenon lights, "X-Line", roof rails, reverse camera, front and rear park assist, and more, but that leaves it as a fast, spartan car. I'll take all that over an extra 60hp in a CUV.

Don't get me wrong - if money weren't a factor, I'd take the 6 for sure. But this is the real world and money is a factor.

With my current spec out, at an MSRP of 61k for the 35i or 58k for the 28i, it just doesn't make any sense to save 5% and get the 28i.

Also dont forget, some people are buying CPO (less than a year used like in my case) and some other folks are leasing.

For me it was basically my budget and I would of gone with the 35i except the dealers weren't budging. The 28i I picked it up with DHP, because there was barely any under 11k miles w/ Premium Hi-Fi (Sound), DHP, M-Sport which was my main 3 goals.

According to FuelEconomgy.gov
28i = 425 miles range , 21 city 28 hwy , 24mpg combined
35i = 372 miles range , 19 city 26 hwy , 21mpg combined

And not to mention this is driving 45% hwy, 55% city, 15k miles annually is their test.
Also, depending on your foot you might not reach these numbers (my case).

The fillup starts adding up and since my previous cars were V6 rated at 18/25, 19/26 I wanted an improvement in efficiency as well.

N20 best of both worlds except no exhaust note like the 35i...unless you upgrade to super sprint exhaust or similar.

Golf-tee mod is on the 35i and it helps the 28i even too.

Check it out on the 28i

It's too bad the M Performance exhaust is only available for the X4 and not the X3. Loved the way it sounded on my X5.
