Buying a 2013 x3 with the "n20" warranty recommendations?

Hi there...

I am closing the deal in a clean x3, and it of course has the n20 which is from what I read/hear problematic. The timing chain thing is scaring the s^^t out of me. Its got 80k miles, runs well, but I know it can go any any time. Is there a warranty company that is known to cover this? Should I just buy a warranty now to accommodate then "when" it happens?

Does anyone know if Route66 is an option for X models?

TIA

I wouldn't get an N20 that's not 1/2015 or newer. With that said, there's plenty of earlier N20 cars without issue.

Have you read through the N20/26 lawsuit post and I think there was one other on the subject as well. It appears to be a crap shoot as to whether you will have the dreaded failure or not. Just be aware of what you might be getting into by being informed. Why would you think about buying a car that is scaring the s^^t out of you, even if its a good deal?

I don’t want to make this sound like a cheap shameful shot but why not look for a 35i instead? Like mine.. .. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1741111

I'd run away, it's a ticking time bomb so why chance it. Besides, the 4 cyl mpg is only a few miles better then the 6 cyl, so why bother..

Got the car. Dealer maintained and my service advisor said any repair that was needed was done. Has new brakes, tires, newer battery, thermostat, etc. Paint is perfect, so is interior, 9.5/10. Credit union offered route66 warranty so I added that for a few bucks, 3yr/36k miles. Little peace of mind against my "never buy warranty" mindset. It's not the top package, but covers major engine, trans, 4x4 and so on. Let's hope I never need it but it's available if necessary.
