Any idea why disabling the bulb failure check of reversing lights lead into several failures, such as: tyre pressure warning, drive train warning, xDrive warning, etc. etc.?

The car is F25, production 12/2011 (MY 2012).

In your E-Sys package was a "E-Sys - Installation Instructions - v.5.pdf" document. Token solution options are explained in great detail in it.

It shouldn't, unless you corrupted your CAFD during the process.

After 43 pages in this thread I still don't understand how this coding stuff works...

I was successful having followed the instructions to the 't' but can someone dumb down exactly what's happening with coding.

Is it similar to flashing the bios on the home computer?

what are the hardware and software components? tokens, etc. etc.

Thanks. A successful Luddite

Coding = Changing the settings of individual ECU's to alter their behavior.
Hardware = All the ECU's in your CAR, a Laptop, and an ENET Cable Interface.
Software = E-Sys Application and PSdZData Coding Files
Token = Digital certificate file that allows you to use E-Sys to make changes to ECU settings.

But changing it back to active cleared all failures.

Then it would seem that whatever you coded was something other then the Bulb Warm and Cold checks.

Your 2013, like mine does not have the new iDrive system, so you can't code the M start screen.

Questions for the coding experts. I purchased cable and software from April 1 in late 2012 (E-Sys 3.18 and psdzdata 4.74). I have used this software to code both my 2011 528i (July 2010 build) and 2013 X3 (Sep 2012 build) but I have not coded anything in over a year. Is this version of SW still valid or do I need to upgrade? Also, the wife is considering buying a 4 series will it work with the new car?

If your 2011 F10 and 2013 F25 have not had their software updated by the dealership since you last coded it, then what you have will still work. If the car's have been updated, it won't work. For the new 4-Series, it definitely will not work.

New to the forums and the BMW world. Do I have to re-code the vehicle after any upgrade that I add that requires programming? I plan on installing a few aftermarket part but I am making them full OEM, so i want to make sure I am coding/programming in the right order.

It all depends on exactly what you are retrofitting. If you retrofit something with an Option code, it will likely require coding at the minimum.

Shawn, How would I know whether the vehicle s/w has been updated or not? What would I need for the 4 series?
