Different types of rear lights
Today I saw a new X3 on the highway with different rear lights than I have.
These are mine (well actually they're not mine, I stole them from the pics forum ) And the one I saw on the highway didn;t look as fancy and only had light in the outer side of the lights (I hope you understand what I mean). Is this a Xenon/non Xenon thing?

I think the person you were driving behind might not have had their daytime running lights checked in iDrive. If this is the case, the LEDs in back and front are not on, but this person might have been braking, which is why you saw the outer part of the taillamp illuminated.

It was dark and he had his lights switched on; he didn't have xenons so I guess that you have different tail lamps for xenon/non xenon

I have cropped the images and set them next to each other. It's hard to see with the lights off, but you can tell a difference. This should be the difference he noticed. You can clearly see the LED poles only covering 2/3 of the taillight.

well one taillight is lit and the other is turned off..im sure if there was a difference it would be noted when buying x3 with xenons or without xenons
same way its noted when purchasing 28 vs 35 |

http://www.bmw.de/de/de/newvehicles/...?download=true It clearly says: Xenon lichtnung inkl. Scheinwerfer-Waschanlage, Tagfahrlicht über LED-Leuchtringe, automatischer Leuchtweitenregulierung, Heckleuchten mit LED-Leuchtbänken A quick Google Translate gives you: Xenon light including headlight washers, daytime driving lights with LED light rings, automatic headlight range adjustment, rear lights with LED light banks |

Hurray! After browsing through many pages of used X3's on a German website I found a non-xenon X3 with the lights on :-))
And look what I also found. I really didn't know that this existed. An X3 without iDrive and sat nav screen!

Interesting...if you don't get Business or Professional Nav in Europe you get a storage compartment in place of the screen? The Business Nav screen is standard here in the US without Nav, but if Nav is ordered, it comes with the Professional screen.
You guys in Europe do have the rear foglight switch, though. Can't argue with that. |

Well, regarding the rear lights, I guess the issue's already covered. Non-xenon lights do not have the light strips iluminated in the rear, only the regular "bulb" on the sides.
Regarding the screen, it's standard with the i-drive, which is also standard equipment in Portugal. If you order business nav you're stuck with the same screen, if you order the professional nav, among other things you also get the bigger screen. As for the storage compartment, there is also an accessory that replaces that with an Iphone support so that you have it on the dash to perform as a GPS! Regards David |

There is an option that gives you the 6,5" screen, but no NAV. That is 663 Radio BMW Professional. This is basically the iDrive with normal set of speakers and a CD/Radio. This car doesn't have that obviously. This car has however, a Radio/CD so this must be some kind of Radio BMW Business or something that I've never seen in an options list. If you don't get one of the NAV options (Bus/Pro), you will not get the wide LCD screen in the instrument panel, just a small one, like this car has. Then you have the biggest mystery of all, if these two pictures are of the same car... A straight six engine (30D) with a manual stick.... I didn't know this was even a possible combo...? But maybe in some screwed up marked it is possible... I don't know. Or maybe this is one of the prototypes? |

Oh hey by the way I think I saw you driving south on the inner drive between Briar and Wellington. I was in a black 328i loaner. Your car looks great. Makes me miss my own a lot.
