Drove an X3 35i with M package - steering too light?

So I drove a 2012 X3 35i with the M sport package, and the car is definitely wonderful and pulls nicely.

My only issue is that the steering is really light. I have a 335i sport sedan, and It's heavy because it is hydraulic - and the X3 is obviously electronic.

I put it in all of the modes, including sport plus, and it was still fairly light even at highway speed. Is this just how it is since it's electric? Or is there a setting I missed that can tighten the steering up a bit? It felt a bit loose. And I did have it in Sport and Sport plus.

Any idea how it was configured in iDrive? Were all options ticked?

Assume it had the Sport auto gearbox.

Whenever I put my 35-Msport into Sport+ or Sport you can actually feel the wheel tighten up. It may be lighter then most cars because it is electronic.

What you might be feeling is a slightly disconnected feeling of the electric assist, especially if your current car is hydraulic. The heavier steering feel in sport mode really felt artificial to me when I first got my car but now I'm use to it.

BMW could set the steering weighting any way they want, hydraulic or EPS. It is not EPS in itself that means steering is light weighted.

It seems BMW are giving answers to the bigger market who complain that BMW steering is heavy, some saying "too heavy".

For myself, who had a 3-series with hydraulic steering, my current car, (an F11 535i), when configued to sport mode is virtually the same sort of steering weighting as my e91 330d was. In normal and conmfort mode it is lighter, but for me it is well calibrated to the selected drive modes.

If others are getting the changes in the X3, then how the demo car was configured may be the issue. Others have been caught out that way with demo cars.
