You'll get text messages with the new update (I've been running it and it works well, the envelope icon shows up on the iDrive screen and if you go to the messages menu it shows them to you) and possibly emails too. Emails aren't working on it at the moment but may be by the time it comes out.

Just to add that it's all over Bluetooth as well so it won't have to be physically connected. Will be interested to see if email works on the released iOS

Correct, it displays on the screen while leaving it unread on the iphone.
Do not believe this has any relation to any subscription to BMW services no. |

The amount of idiots I see on the road accessing emails on their phones and posting messages on social network sites is alarming and dangerous. They have absolutely no idea what is around them. Stop at lights and look at phone, etc. Drive off and they wonder why they just run over a little child that apparently came out of nowhere!
A mate of mine is a copper and says he could spend all day just nicking stupid bastards using their mobiles for texting or making calls without hands free. |

The strange thing is that hands free is seen as safe when it's the concentration lapse that's the danger. Hands free is just as dangerous as holding a phone to your ear. Concentrate on driving. You shouldn't be calling anyone whilst driving

+1 while I may have my phone connected I avoid making calls unless stuck in traffic and not moving. If I receive a call, then I will still tell them I am driving and I will call them back when I am free.
No matter what people say, when you are on a call or even fumbling with the voice or menu options to read the texts you are not focused. You used to have full text integration in the previous generation of the onboard systems in the UK, but it was removed as it was seen as unsafe. At least in this one you are only read and not send (or have Mavis Beacon read it to you in a funny way) |
